Google Maps helping people in Emergency

Last October Google Local Guides has published a news blog regarding join the movement to map India's Hospitals. It helped a lot.  Still I am getting news from others that people are updating/adding info of local hospitals in Google maps.

On 3rd March, VIMS (Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences, Calcutta) has organized a medical seminar at their campus regarding trauma care update. Many renowned doctors, surgeons, police officers participated in the event and they discussed various topics regarding trauma.  Unfortunately India has very few trauma care hospitals (officially), majority of private hospitals have emergency department but not level 1/2 trauma centers like developed countries. RTA (Road traffic accidents) are major cause of trauma in this city.

We observed sometimes victims failed to reach emergency room within Golden hour.  We are planning to convey message to all leading hospitals in our city to accurate/update to date their hospital, blood bank, pharmacy info on maps so that it can save lives in emergency.  I heard a story from my junior doctor colleague that a injured guy has able to come to ER room in festival night with the help of Google maps. He thanked to maps app for providing live traffic update, despite the jams on festival night he quickly checked the traffic condition and came to nearby hospital by bypassing congested route.

Last year Bartaman news paper has published this news as well and people already made good hospital contributions on maps in our city.  Thanks to entire Google maps team and all local guides for keeping the best maps everywhere.

I am sharing some pictures of the seminar.

Re: Google Maps helping people in Emergency

This is awesome @DrShaunak. Everyone can help contribute to good causes and you are for sure doing it very well. It's important to spread the word so everyone knows about this helpful tool which can literally save your life in an emergency.

Thank you very much for this post, we shouldn't forget about a movement because it's been a few months before, we should add them to our everyday contributing list. And this is exactly what you are doing 🙂
