There is research that shows that simple messages like core values and mission statements can be more powerful than many other forms of communication. Part of the reasoning for this comes from Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, in particular each person's sense of belonging.
When an organization adopts a simple and easily followed rule structure, it allows for a participant to feel that they are part of something bigger than themselves. The attendance to the rule structure makes decisions easy that may have been more difficult if they did not exist.
It also defines an out-group, that is to say for example, if you plan on posting content from other sources, you may not want to be part of our group. And that value "We're Original", all by itself, is a protection and a rallying call.

We’re original.
We’re watchful.
