Celebration of International Women’s Day with the Underprivileged Community

On the International Women’s Day on 8th March, we have organized an event at slum with slum dwellers, located at Mirpur, Dhaka, Bangladesh. In the event both privileged and underprivileged people of the society, and they exchanged their views on several issues that concern us all. Through this event, we have given an opportunity for the underprivileged slum people to communicate directly with the university students, social workers and elite part of the society.lgc (8).JPG

The slum dwellers have expressed their concerns about different issues that they undergo as underprivileged community. Among the ideas they shared to us, women’s day-to-day struggles in the slum was one of the main issues. After listening to their speech, we have assured them to work together to enhance their quality of life and to reduce their sufferings by taking effective initiatives.lgc (10).jpg

There were mainly four  segments of the event. The first segment of the event introduces the significance of the International Women’s Day which they did not have any idea about. They have got to know for the first time what this International Women’s Day is about. In the second segment, we cut a cake to celebrate the day. Their happiness could be read from their eyes. The happiness of those underprivileged people was immense and satisfying for us as well.

However, the third segment of the program introduces Google Local Guides to the slum people and how it works to make the world more connected and easy to travel places around the world.

At the later part of the event, two volunteers belonging to Dinajpur Local Guides donated blood to honour the special day. During the program, the moderator of Mymensingh Local guides (PavelS) ,volunteers of Dinajpur Local Guides and former Lt. Colonel Didarul Alam were present. There were altogether nearly 50 people from both privileged and underprivileged community.lgc (5).JPG
