Adding a Non-Business, Non-Addressed Location?

I checked the forums but didn't find an exact match to this request. If there is one, feel free to reference it here, and I will check that solution.

Goal: As a Local Guide I am aware of a number of scenic public spaces that are not businesses, and do not have an address like a park but are great places for visitors to spend some time. For example a laneway between commercial districts that the commercial district paid to beautify, or a small green space that is maintained by the city but is not listed on the city's park list. I would like to share, name and photograph these places for visitors and other google guides.

Problem: I am unable to add the location as google requires either a business identity or an address.

Any help would be appreciated.

I too would be curious about this because it gives me some ideas for things that are not listed... I will see for an answer as well!

Hi @BenKlein if in your country the Google Map Maker is opened you can try to add some non business places using Google Map Maker. You can add parks, historical landmarks and many other things.

Please read about Map Maker editing in Help Center:

Hey @LucioV thanks for the assist. I will check it out.

I have to admit I was worried there wouldn't be a solution because Google wouldn't want everyone just posting random places and muddling up the value of the GoogleMaps product.

Warmly,

Ben

Hi @BenKlein,

If you are not sure if any type of POI can be added to Maps or not, it will be best to ask at the Mapmaker Forum before doing editing.

You can  include a link to the dropped pin for the location, with descriptions like Names, Address, Category, why it should be added and how you know about it.

Post this type of questions as "Questions for the Community".  Experts at Mapmaker Forum will quickly tell you if those places can be Mapped or not.

Re: Adding a Non-Business, Non-Addressed Location?

Hi @BenKlein,

A POI does not necessarily need to have an exact address (Street and number). Here is a place I added about a month ago:

https://goo.gl/maps/Uv9PJoVMoSG2

It's indeed in part of a national park and the special rock formations are protected. It's actually outside the inhabited parts of a small village (with about ten permanent residents). In this photo of the information you can read about it:

Also it's not at an exact street address so in cases like this, the town name is enough (the same with statues in public places for instance - you can give a street name but not a particular house number).

The rule of thumb is to add the address as precisely as possible. If only the town or city location can be added, be it. Note however that the chances of a newly added place getting published immediately is higher if you provide as much detail as possible (i.e. precise address - if possible - is always preferred).
