Food blogger and influencer Atim Ukoh is on a mission to educate others about Nigerian food. Through delicious recipes and beautiful food photos on her blog, Afrolems, she inspires people all over the world to cook flavorful African dishes.
We were lucky enough to have her join us for Connect Live Abuja, where she gave some of her best tips for taking amazing food photos. Now, we’d like to share them with all of you, too.
1. Wipe your lens
This will keep dust and smudging from ruining your photos.
2. Highlight shapes and imperfections in food
Don’t be afraid to take a bite or leave some crumbs—it adds personality!
3. Grab a seat by the window
This will help you take advantage of the natural light shining into a restaurant.
4. Look for color
Some of the best food photo shots show pops of color on a neutral background.
5. Try a variety of angles before sharing your best shots
Take a few close-up shots from different angles. Then, Atim recommends taking a step back to capture more details, like table settings, seating, and the atmosphere.
6. Tell a story
Whether it’s a mood you’d like to convey, an emotion you hope to trigger, or a detail you want to highlight, you can send a message with your food photography. Capture the atmosphere to show what it’s like to experience that dish at that restaurant. Focus in on the color of a fluffy cupcake to conjure memories of childhood. Transport others to a cold autumn day with a beautiful bowl of soup. Don’t just take a photo—tell a story.
Have you shared any amazing food photos on Google Maps lately? Link to them in the comments below. Then, tell us what story you hope it tells.

Muy bueno el texto, habrá que intentar seguir sus consejos para mejorar las fotos que solemos hacer con el móvil. Porque la verdad a veces solemos hacer muchas fotos en vez de buscar la belleza y la estética.
