i just notice something is not correct with google maps review.
this place have 4.1 review .
but actually it should have a rating around 3.
11 people have submitted their review and with a simple average of those review should be around
5 | 1 | 5 |
3 | 4 | 12 |
3 | 5 | 15 |
11 | 32 |
32/11= 2.9
so now i have this question how does really this reviewing system works? 2 of those reviews are new
but even without those 2 review it shouldn't be 4.1 ( 30/9 = 3.3)
can someone help me to better understand the rating system in google map ?

As you say, based on a pure average the rating for this business would be 2.9, therefore to get from there to 4.1 then the rest must be made up by the "variety of other signals" that Google mention. Obviously those mysterious other signals are weighted pretty heavily to push the total up so much

I'll bet the next free T shirt nobody can.
Great question though! I think the whole review summary section in general is flawed, there are a couple of threads on the forum pointing out issues

it's a bit point less if they ask local guide to write a review and the rating is not effected at all :(.
I feel like sometimes im wasting my time on those review:(
from now on I think i gone stop with writing review and reporting pictures, just correcting map details, uploading pictures and adding new places.
whats your thoughts ?
lol I was forcing my friends to write reviews and rate places so no one will go through bad experience that she went.
No she is asking me why i see no changes, while she and couple of other people wrote bad reviews for them.

Hi @AliBijani,
What do those figures mean? And how do you come up with those figures?
5 15
3 412
3 515
11 32
The generic answer can be find in GMB forum: https://www.en.advertisercommunity.com/t5/Basics-for-Business-Owners/Google-star-rating-does-not-add...
A. Only when Rating volumes are enough, Maps will give the Average Rating Score (the actual number change from time to time.)
B. Google use other signals to caculate the Average Rating Score. So even all ratings are 5, the average can be less than 5.

"We calculate an overall rating based on user ratings and a variety of other signals"
That could mean anything, possibly to do with search frequency, linkage and other algorithmic data that Google will never reveal. Basically we will never really know how ratings work, they are a guide but set within undisclosed parameters.

He means there were:
Five '1 star' reviews (5 x 1 = 5 stars)
Three '4 star' reviews (3 x 4 =12 stars)
Three '5 star' reviews (3 x 5 = 15 stars)
That's a total of 11 reviews and 32 stars

I understand they have their own algorithm but having a 4.1 rating is a bit overrated for them.
just saying i love to see google map grow bigger and be have more reliable ratings. hope my feedback will be helpful for them

Thank you @Pea!
Then about the remaining question "How to come up with those figures?".
The total numbers of Reviews are shown. Please teach me how to find out the breakdowns for each score and the total ratings given for a particular place.

This is a flawed rating system. I will no longer contribute ratings, there's no point if Google just publishes whatever rating they see fit.
