Option to report Accidents, Traffic Jams.. etc on google Maps

Why can't google allow temporary incident reporting like accidents, Trafic jams, Police speed cams ... ? Waze has it. Isn't Waze owned by Google?

  • "Waze users ("Wazers") can report accidents, traffic jams, speed and police traps, and, from the online map editor, can update roads, landmarks, house numbers, etc. Waze sends anonymous information, including users' speed and location, back to its database to improve the service as a whole."

Re: Option to report Accidents, Traffic Jams.. etc on google Maps

Hi @RajievR yes Waze is owned by Google. The two applications are kept separate, however some of the information reported in Waze does become available in Maps.

If you want features such as reporting of obstacles etc. then please use Waze.

Waze is purely for navigation and has some specialised options that Maps does not. Only Maps has the Local Guides features.

Thanks for your reply @PaulPavlinovich

I noticed some info you mentioned. If I'm correct Google may have got the traffic info feature/idea from waze.

Waze has ton of features that Google  maps could use. By default MAPS are used for Navigation, imho. So is there a specific reason Google not adapting features like

  • Speed limit display (when exceeded)
  • Speed Camera/Acvident/Event addition (which I miss mostly) etc

IMHO, addition of these features will make Google Maps whole.

Ha ha 🙂

So many negatives that I can't get the message.

Aw, understood the NDA part.

I'm sure that Google has a strong reason for not doi G this. Just hope it's a really good one 🤗
