Hi,

I just wanted to know how can we add a home address for public use. as I try to add a home address in home category it says only you can see this and if you want to make it visible for other public choose different category....

Re: Adding home address for public

Hi @sookhjinder, your home is a private place and you may not add it to the public layer of Maps. If you want others to be able to find you, they can search for locality / street / number etc.

Imagine everyone's home address were cluttering Maps!

You can create lists or your own maps in the Google ecosystem which you can share with others.

@sookhjinder As what @Csaba has mentioned, home addresses should not be added to Google Maps.

However, if let's say you want to share your specific location to a friend/s who wants to visit you, you could do this.

1) On Android Maps app on phone: Look for your location on Google Maps app. Find the exact point where you are. Long press that location on screen, and you can see a dropped red pin. From the pin,  you will see a Share. And you can share that to anyone through the phone. (That doesn't get added to Maps).

2) On Desktop Maps, on PC: Look for your location on Google Maps through the browser. Find the exact point where you are. Right click using the mouse and and select What's Here. You will see a small window about the location with a set of numbers (GPS coordinates), click on that number link, and you will be able to share that via a URL. (This doesn't get added to Maps).

So this is how you can share a specific point in Maps without adding it to Maps.

Re: Adding home address for public

The ability to add an address marker is not currently available in Google Maps. In the Map Maker program, prior to its closure in March 2017, we had the ability to search for, add and move these hidden placeholders, so that a search by address would route Maps users to the right place.

Google heard a very vocal group regarding editing address markers during the discussions leading up to that shutdown, and so they know the need is there, but like incorporating other features from Map Maker into Google Maps, as is typically their policy, they will not announce when that ability will be added in advance.

Re: Adding home address for public

Hi @MWJones, on the mobile (at least on Android), when you first search for an address, you can "report a problem" and there move the marker just as for any POI.

Certainly it was easier and faster in MM but in very crucial cases, at least we still have the tool.
