Editor’s note: We are so blown away by the response from our community to the Local Love challenge! As of this week, we’ve already reached our goals in the new markets.
After publishing this post, we’ve updated our goals to:

We originally launched the Local Love challenge in the United States earlier this year in an effort to help local businesses keep their information up-to-date on Google Maps.
After the initial launch, we beat our community goal in nearly half that time! Soon after, we rolled out the challenge in Poland, Spain, Mexico, and Indonesia. You all jumped at the chance to keep your communities updated on Google Maps and help both people and businesses in the process.
To continue the momentum of the incredible work you’ve been doing, we’re expanding the Local Love challenge. Starting today, July 16th, Local Guides (with Android phones) located in the following countries can now participate and earn bonus points: Bangladesh, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Mexico, and Russia. It’s rolling out this week, so be sure you have the most updated version of Google Maps and keep an eye on the app if you are located in one of these areas. Read on to learn more about our goals for this leg of the challenge.
New goals:
- Bangladesh: 10,000
- Germany: 50,000
- United Kingdom: 40,000
- Italy: 50,000
- Mexico: 50,000
- Russia: 30,000
In addition to new countries and new goals, another fresh element we added is the ability to achieve personal milestones and earn bonus points as part of the community challenge. Completing each personal milestone (5 tasks) will award you 5 bonus points. The challenge will run now through August 8, so get started soon in order to earn those bonus points.
