Valentine’s Day Challenge: Spread love today with kudos and likes

As Local Guides, you share tons of helpful information not only on Google Maps, but also here on Connect. We want to encourage the community to appreciate all the amazing things shared here by challenging each of you to give kudos to 10 posts on Connect today that you love.

See a really great discussion? Give kudos to the Local Guide who started it. What about a very insightful answer to a question? Kudo it up! Love a photo posted by a fellow Local Guide? Make sure they know! The same goes for advice, meet-up recaps, awesome replies, and anything else you think deserves a kudo. Better yet, add a comment about what you loved, too. Don't forget about stellar reviews on Google Maps either. Make sure you tap the "thumbs up" button to like the reviews you find most informative. 

While you’re saying “thanks” to your fellow Local Guides, remember that they’ll be on the hunt for great posts, too, so if you have something to share, today’s a good day to do it.

I'd like to point out two things before this challenge ends:

1) if you like someone's photos, you can kudo them as well as posts. For that go to their profile and see photos: open and like. (you won't see the numbers in your profile update but they count in for the badges for both and the receiver gets notified.

2) this challenge never ends. 😉

How ironic that all this promotion of giving kudos  in this recycled announcement has popped up when Connect 2.0 (" the Conversation Killer ")  has limited this very feature substantially and when the level of interaction between Local Guides continues to drop to an all-time low ...

We are permitted to interact with those who are allowed to post "Announcements" and such but the new lifestyle magazine format has effectively destroyed any semblance of a real user-to-user forum now.

Perhaps the statistics and the reduction in both quality and quantity of Local Guide contributions will cause one of the directors at Google Maps to finally wake up to what is really going on.

It is becoming obvious that few people are reading the comment threads anymore and most of the responses make it clear that the discussion begins and ends with the feature article and the voices of other Local Guides are seldom heard now.

Once a social network becomes a corporate "write only" showcase then it ceases to have much vitality or purpose and its long-term, major contributors simply move on ...
