Update, 6/13/18: All 151 selected applicants have been notified about their status and all remaining Local Guides will hear about their status by June 20th.

Over the coming days everyone who applied for this year’s Local Guides event, Connect Live 2018, will receive an email about whether or not they have been selected to attend. I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for submitting their applications and let you know how much fun the team had in reviewing the thousands (yes, THOUSANDS) of applications.

We have selected 151 Local Guides to represent the global community at Connect Live 2018. That’s right: you heard it here first that we selected an extra Local Guide to share information back with the community!

Every person selected was carefully reviewed by the team and chosen for a very special reason. While some may not share their status just yet, we ask you to be patient as they work through their excitement — and the details.

Overall, it was inspiring to see how committed many of you are to the Local Guides community on top of making fantastic contributions to Google Maps: helping your local community by adding new places, creating lists to help others exploring your area, and hosting meet-ups to connect locally, just to name a few. It was fun learning about your specific passions, too. Whether you were one of the vegan foodies, accessibility champions, or rappers (yes, there were rappers!), you help to keep Connect a warm and welcoming place for Local Guides no matter where in the world you may call home.

I’m proud to be a Local Guide and I look forward to seeing our global community grow over the coming weeks, months, and years, especially here on Connect.

Hello @Vi_ka_sh,

We had thousands of applicants representing more than 100 countries. We did not reserve space at Connect Live for specific countries, but rather considered every applicant based on the complete application submitted. 

We do not publish a list of those who have been selected to attend Connect Live 2018 as we respect everyone's privacy and some may not wish to share at this point, especially as arrangements have not yet been finalized. Selected attendees have been encouraged to share and will soon have a badge on Connect that will designate them as attending Connect Live 2018.

I was not selected last year and I was so much heart broken that I almost left the program. 

  After a month of despair, I went to LGC boards and read hundreds of posts and comments congratulating the ones who got it. 

Then I went through their application videos and contributions and realized that the selection was fair. 

I also read posts from many members and realized that yes, they wanted to attend the summit, but their fight was not for points or selection on LG platform, they do it because they love it. It changed my mindset right there and then and I got more passionate about the program. 

Honestly, I believe that I have lesser contributions within the last year as compared to the time when I first applied for LG summit 17. But, now I know that Google's team did an extra ordinary job to pick 150 out of thousands of applicants. They must have poured in hundreds of man hours going through our applications and overall content. 

Also, your work is extra ordinary, if you didn't make it this year that only means that your profile based on your content and contributions sits at top of most of us and next year when you'll apply again with more passion , you will definitely make it to San Francisco. 

Just don't give up, keep contributing because in this digital age, ai believe this is an outstanding platform for digital volunteer work. Lets keep working and help others to make this world a better place for our kids and generations to come. 

P.S. if i'll get my visa and be actually there in San Francisco this year, I will make a little poster for you with your name on it and will stream it LIVE for you 🙂

I wish you are talking about next year for @OSAMA going to Connect Live.

At this stage, all 151 spots of Connect Live 2018 are already confirmed.

If you are wishing @OSAMA can to this year, then it means you are indirectly wishing, some confirmed Attendee like myself, cannot go for whatever reason.

If it is me that cannot go for reasons that I have no control, can you imagine how depressed I will be?

I just want you to have this in mind, when you are wishing some non-confirmed Attendees that can go to Connect Live 2018.

    I used to swap palaces with anybody just to put a smile on their faces, that's what one of my favorite teachers taught me when I was really young, I believe in Grade 3.

      But ConnectLive is so big that I know I will be badly depressed if I'm unable to attend, but I'd still swap places with you, if needed   🙂

This is some kind of immaturity from the person who holds matured post at google. Don't look always for the meaning of particular sentence. A Good human being exprsses Well Wishes for others (not for own), which wished in general, not on the cost of other's happiness.

You, as holding the Matured Post, took it personally, with immatured reaction.

For understanding the Level of Kindness in both the cases,

1. Good wishes by a junior member at just level-3  @AmarSu (And that to for others)🤗
2. Immatured reply from you @YK1001 Sir, who holding a Responsible Posting as Moderator. (Taking it as personal)😔

Is there any chance for a wild card entry to the summit. I recently only came to know about this event. Never knew something like this is happening in the other part of the world. I used to contribute reviews. It was by chance that I came to know about this summit for local guides. Anyways i wish them all the best.

Out of 151 local guides if anyone visa is rejected , google has to fill the gap with other local guide who deserves. Please give opportunity to others let someone fill the gap.

Hello @ShaikMohammed, when a Local Guide can't go for any reason, including a rejected Visa, the Local Guides team sends an invitation to another deserving Local Guide. So, good idea, but it's already done ☺️
