Share videos on Google Maps to earn the new Director badge

Last year, we introduced new badges that recognize the different ways Local Guides like you share your knowledge on Google Maps. Whether you love to write detailed reviews, share amazing photos, or check the facts, there’s a badge for you.

Now that both Android and iPhone users can add videos on Maps, we’ve launched a new badge that celebrates Local Guides who love to capture their favorite places in motion. You can earn the Director badge by sharing videos of the places you visit on Maps. Try giving a tour of an attraction in your area or sharing a video review of a restaurant you love.

By sharing more great videos, you can upgrade from a Novice Director to an Expert Director—and eventually work all the way up to a Master Director. Your past video contributions are factored in, so some of you may already have this badge!

To check, go to “Your contributions” on Google Maps for Android or iOS. There, you’ll see your progress toward this badge.

Hi @AriMar I got excited about the video thing earlier when I started to get my badge. So I got my gimbal and started making videos. I even edited those to post it here on my contributions to earn more badges. I made videos of park and other public places. Couldn't upload any of the videos. They're all hyperlapsed video of 1-2mins. I keep getting error message and can't upload. If I remove the videos and upload just the review, it works. But not with the video and its sad!! 😞

This is awesome, but when I log in, I dont see a Directors badge.  I have only uploaded 9 videos, maybe I haven't uploaded enough to get the Novice one yet.  Can someone help me better understand this?

Regarding the first inquiry, please make sure to follow the instructions for removing photos or videos on Google Maps.

About uploading video with larger size, please be advised that  you may shoot videos up to 10 seconds long, and you can upload videos from your gallery that are up to 30 seconds long. For the moment, that would be the current restriction.

Are there any tips on how to do this/use this? I have a bunch of time lapses that are from around my city as B-Roll for something I wanted to add. I copied them onto my google drive then they showed up in 'my photos' but they don't seem to be available to add. The only one that does show up is from a location which doesn't seem to let me add pictures (but I could flag the wrong photo someone added 🙂 )

Regarding your inquiry, please make sure that your videos would not exceed 30 seconds, as well as you may take a look at our instructions page on how to add videos on Google Maps.

We would suggest you to give a try adding the footages on Google Photos  and to check Google Maps Help Centre for more convinience.
