New: notifications when a business owner responds

Whether you give a restaurant five stars or suggest some ways a store can improve, it’d be helpful to know if the business owner responds to your review.

 

Now, you finally can. Google recently launched a new feature that allows you to receive notifications when a business owner replies to the reviews you’ve left on Google Maps.

 

Just five minutes after the business posts its response, you’ll get an email informing you of the reply as well as a link to read it in full. There are also plans to release push notifications on mobile at a later date.

I receved a reply from a business owner asking for my e-mail but I don't like the idea of sharing my e-mail address publicly in a new comment. I mentioned the organization of the place in my evaluation and the owner wants to know more about it to try to improve. If this happened to someone else, what did you do?

I really like this update. I think the feature gives the Business an opportunity to either address the concerns, fix the concern at the root,  or take time to appreciate it by acknowledging its receipt and commend his/her staff.  If I feel posting a negative review is warranted I will do some homework first. I will only do a less than positive review if I've attempted to take my concern to management and failed to reach him/her, or got an unfavorable reply, and/or if it's a safety-related or legal concern... Issues other than those, I will just give a low rating with no review.  I look at ratings before I read reviews. Best of all, I think this feature will help to keep us aware of and accountable for our reviews. So the feature, I feel is validating me by making me reachable. If someone appreciates my review and says thank you, I would like to say...You're Welcome! However, I would be uncertain about what to do if the business replied and asked for my email? Safety, of course, would be a concern, way too much personal info. is attached to our email accounts. Thank you for making "My Guiding life" Simpler Google.

Thank you for letting me know about this new feature on Google Maps. It sounds like it will be very helpful to receive notifications when a business owner responds to a review I've left. I appreciate the heads up and I'm looking forward to trying out this feature.
