October 1, 2019 Update: This feature is in the process of being turned off. Any hashtags you have added to reviews will still be visible, however, you will not be able to click on the hashtags to find other reviews with this information. We encourage you to continue to use the keywords important to you in your reviews to help others who are interested in this information. We thank you for being avid contributors to Google Maps and for sharing your feedback about hashtags.

Have a favorite coffee shop that serves #oatmilk or a go-to #datespot? You can now share the places you love and why you love them with hashtags on Google Maps.

Live on Android and coming soon to iOS, hashtags are an easy way to tell others about your exciting experiences and find similar ones in your area, whether you’re doing a general search for #familyfriendly places or just need to share all the ways to experience #pumpkinspice this fall (or seasonal treats popular near you).

Here are some tips to get you started:

1. Use specific hashtags that you’d want to search

Hashtags like #love, #food, or #favorite may be too vague to help people find what they’re looking for. Here are some interesting hashtag ideas to use instead:

    • All your favorite places: #LetsGuide
    • Restaurants, bars, cafes: #vegetarian #oatmilk #fallcocktails
    • Attractions: #streetart #rainydays #selfiespot
    • Outdoors: #sunsetviews #lakeside #leafpeeping
    • Accessibility: #wheelchairaccessible #audiomenu #stepfree

2. Include up to five hashtags

If you want to include multiple hashtags, we recommend keeping it to five. Add them to the end of your reviews to make the text easier to read.

3. Add hashtags to past reviews

You can go back and add hashtags to your past reviews and photo captions so more people will find them.

What hashtags are you excited to start using? Tell us in the comments below!

Hi, I am excited to start using this hashtag #wheelchairaccessible to help the people with disabilities find the places they can go to with the minimal of fuss. Wheelchair accessible areas and parking are not so many as they should be. Creating awareness of those that are there is something that I am really looking forward to.

Another interseting hashtag that I think I will definitely be looking for a place around that does it is the #audiomenu. I live in Nairobi and I have never been to a plcae that offers such a service to people with visual impairemants.I will definitely be looking for one this December and in the restaurants that I'll be visiting around my Country from now on I'll be suggesting the audio menu.

Hey, @AriMar I’m not the biggest fan of hashtags but I’ve been using them with this program as I can see they are useful.

A question, #vegetarian #vegan for restaurants makes sense, but I do a lot for dogs and started with kid friendly places. How should it be structured to make sense? #dogfriendly #kidfriendly

Could you you post an official list of tags for the do good programs? Hey another post right ;p.

Have a funky day

Thanks @AriMar for this cool addition.  I will add #beach #park #hiking #outdoors to some of my reviews.  Will this be rolled out to Google Maps for desktop too ?

Level 10

Wonderfully described guidelines @AriMar. Thank you. Will keep this in mind for future use. And from time to time, shall try to cover the work done previously.

All local guides should explore new places, #letsguide will be helpful to the people in our city.

Be precise from the point of view of people and not of ours.

@AriMar is it a helpful hashtag to add the category of the place, for example Tea wholesaler etc? I think no..

I tried to add hashtags to a review but they have not come live. Place name is Bukhari Tea store. Copy of what I wrote is as follows:

Variety of tea leaves and other related products. Green and black tea leaves. Other varied items like syrups etc also there. Not wheelchair accessible or parking. #teawholesaler, #nowheelchairaccessibly, #nowheelchairparking.

great article about hastag, thanks.

Dear @AriMar

Thanks for this new feature.

I come across lots of delicious Burmese food stalls/ shops on streets also served to the buyers /eaters with smaller seats (stools of just 9 inch height) yet hygienic in many parts of the downtown of Yangon. These are the cheapest ones that challenge the big branded Restaurants in quality and price.

The spices in the food items including vegetarian are such that one do not get a stomach upset.

I have my own experiences of buying or eating food on these Street shops.

I would like to recommend them (cheap & hygienic) to the Google search visitors.

I have the photos in my Camera which I will post from desktop computer.

Can I hashtag these under Restaurants or otherwiseA distant view of Street shopsA distant view of Street shops
