Local Guides 2018: Year in Review

We were pleased to relaunch Connect in 37 languages, with a ton of updates based on your feedback, and introduce a new Director badge on Google Maps to celebrate Local Guides who love to capture videos of their favorite places. We also hosted 151 top Local Guides from 59 countries (a record for our flagship event!) at the Googleplex in Mountain View as part of Connect Live. And, to top it off, we wanted to share even more of your great contributions so we launched an Instagram channel, @googlelocalguides, which already has nearly 200K followers!

As a community, we saw the following in 2018 alone:

• 350,000 Local Guides joined us on Connect
• Nearly 800,000 of you wrote over 100,000 posts and posted 283,000 replies on other Local Guides’ posts
• You acknowledged great posts by giving out over 1 million likes
• You submitted over 3,200 ideas on the Idea Exchange and shared over 181,000 votes on others’ ideas
• You hosted nearly 12,000 meet-ups with over 33,300 registered attendees

2018 was awesome, added some new places and did more reviews than any other year since I became a local guide. 2019 am pushing more, currently on level 7 but I want to reach level 10. I want to contribute more and help identify places based on their ease of accessibility and so many more.

Hola, Las estadísticas se ven muy bien pero a mí me gustaría ver una comparación de las estadísticas del 2017 y las del 2018 para poder palpar como hemos mejorado de un año a otro.  

Yo empecé a hacer contribuciones como un Guía Local de Google en el 2018 y ya el 1 de enero de este año alcancé el nivel 8, de seguir así al final de este año puedo alcanzar el nivel 9.  

Me gustaría que se hagan algunas mejoras en la aplicación, por ejemplo: si doy la sugerencia de eliminar un lugar porque es un duplicado de otro, el sistema debería preguntarme ¿Cuál es el otro lugar?, Agregar una calle resulta muy tedioso y además nunca me han aprobado una edición para agregar una calle faltante en el mapa.

Estoy muy contento de pertenecer a esta comunidad de Guías Locales del mundo. 

Estoy en el nivel 8 y pronto subiré al nivel 9, mis contribuciones son prácticamente diarias, tanto agregando fotos y vídeos nuevos, como lugares que faltan, reseñas y valoraciones o denunciando errores, tanto de sitios inexistentes como fotos inapropiadas, en definitiva, la misma labor que el resto de Guías Locales.

Me gustaría que algunas veces se nos tuviese más en cuenta y por mi parte, quiero exponer varios puntos que creo se podrían mejorar:

- Publicar sitios nuevos.

Cuando un Guía Local tiene cierto nivel, jamás publicará algún lugar falso, por lo tanto, la demora que a veces ocurre no tiene mucho sentido, aunque entiendo que Google lo revise antes de publicarlo.

Lo que no entiendo es por qué algunos lugares que no existen, Google aceptara su publicación, que algoritmo falló? 

- Cuando añadimos un sitio que falta pero nos hemos equivocado en el nombre del comercio o algún otro dato, mientras está pendiente debería haber alguna posibilidad de rectificación y no la hay.

- De igual manera, al publicar un sitio nuevo que falta, cuando se nos pide la categoría, muchas veces no encontramos la que realmente corresponde al sitio y hay que poner otra cosa, y aunque no lo veo del todo correcto, es la única opción para poder continuar.

Habría alguna posibilidad de cambiar esto?

Yo estoy de acuerdo con @Anonymous en los puntos que menciona y puedo agregar otros que a mi entender son errores de la aplicación móvil y que en las versines anteriores no se presentaban:

- Ayer yo quería agregar un restaurante al cual fui a almorzar y vi que no estaba en el mapa pero al intentar agregarlo la aplicación me indicaba que la categoría "Restaurante" no es válida pero como sugerencia me aparecían los diferentes tipos de restaurantes como por ejemplo: "Restaurante chino", etc., etc.

Añadir un nuevo lugar en el mapa es fácil pero poco técnico. Tome algunas fotos de ese lugar, incluyendo la delantera con el nombre propio. Además, lleve su tarjeta o detalle completo de ese restaurante. Agregue todos los detalles en el mapa de Google según el formato. Una vez agregado, puede llevar algún tiempo aprobarlo.

Adding a new place on the map is easy, but little technical. Take a few pictures of that place, including the front one with a proper name. Also, take their card or complete detail of that restaurant. Add all detail in the Google map as per the format. Once added, it may take some time to approve.

I am a old member of LGC and I enjoyed a lot by sharing many information about maps and learned also many things here. Guided by most top level guide and shared thousands of pictures and reviews to maps. Most important thing is the circle of friends connected with each other from around 59 countries and sharing each and every place details among each other.
