We are excited to share that starting today and through January 5th, we’re piloting a new Foodie challenge for some Android users in select countries. What makes the Foodie challenge so exciting is that the idea – to encourage the community to share information about the restaurants and cafes they’ve been to – came from @LuigiZ, a Local Guide from Italy! Rather than just running this challenge in Italy alone, this challenge will also be live in Argentina, Australia, India, and Japan.

For those of you who are in one of these countries and eligible to participate, we hope you’ll join us in reaching your country’s contributions goal through January 5, 2022. Just visit the Contribute tab in Google Maps on your Android and tap “Get started”.

By adding ratings, reviews, and confirming information for the local restaurants you’ve visited, you will help nearby businesses and earn points. You’ll be able to see your individual impact stats as well as your community’s collective impact by checking the progress bar.

We know that Connect users love to talk to fellow Local Guides, so if you’d like to meet others in your country’s challenge, please visit your challenge’s dedicated post below to connect with other participants:

Argentina

Australia

India

Italy

Japan

Below are some questions we expect you may have:

How do I join the Foodie challenge? If you’re an Italy, India, Japan, Argentina and Australia-based Android user, here’s how you can join the Foodie challenge:

  1. Open your Google Maps app (and make sure your Location history is turned on)
  2. Visit the Contribute tab
  3. Tap “Get started”
  4. Rate places, add reviews, upload photos and confirm business updates for places you've been
  5. Visit the Contribute tab before January 5 to continue contributing to the challenge and see what we’re achieving together by checking the progress bar

Not able to see the Foodie challenge? Even though the Foodie challenge is a feature we are piloting in the above countries, you can still make a difference by contributing in your area. We know that when Local Guides come together, you can have a local and global impact!

Are there any other community-based challenges like this you’d like to participate in on Google Maps in the future? Let us know in the comments!
