The month of May officially marks Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, created to recognize the contributions and influence of Asian Pacific Americans to the history and culture of the United States.

Tidal Basin, Washington, D.C.
The Tidal Basin in Washington D.C. is well-known for many reasons, one of which is as the location of the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. The planting of cherry trees there originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship to the People of the United States from the People of Japan. The flowering cherry tree (or "Sakura") is a symbol with rich meaning in Japanese culture.

Wo Hing Temple Museum, Hawaii
