Avoid daily travel stress with Google Maps’ new commute tab

Former Google Contributor

Getting ready to leave for school or work can be hectic, especially when you have morning traffic or unpredictable public transit. So Google Maps launched a new feature to help you plan ahead and avoid delays. The new commute tab gives you live traffic and transit information that’s personalized to your daily trips.Caption: A gif that shows a phone using the new commute tab on Google Maps.Caption: A gif that shows a phone using the new commute tab on Google Maps.

With just a tap, you can see current travel times, live traffic information, alerts, and alternative routes. Even if your trip involves both driving and public transit, you can see details about every leg of your journey.

In 80 regions worldwide, you can see exactly where your train or bus is in real time on the map. Tap on the moving transit icon to see more details like direction and estimated arrival time. If you’re in Sydney, Australia, you can even see how crowded the transit vehicles are. We also built Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play Music controls right into Google Maps navigation, so you don’t have to switch between apps while on the go. Now, you can listen to the music or podcasts you love, uninterrupted.

To get the new commute tab, be sure to update to the latest version of Google Maps from the Play Store or App Store. If you don’t see it yet, you will get it soon! To learn how to set up your commute, visit the Help Center.
