August is National Wellness Month in the United States, but we thought this topic would be relevant to discuss with all of you in the Local Guides community around the globe. With that, we’re thrilled to kick off Local Guides Wellness Week on Connect!

While healthy diets and physical exercise often come to mind when you think of “wellness,” we know there is so much more to it. Read on for some quick and easy ways to enhance the different aspects of your wellness routine.

Surround yourself with inspiration

Local Guides love to explore the world, and we know that isn’t a reality for many of you right now. A simple way to enhance overall wellbeing is to create an environment that makes you feel good, even if you’re stuck at home. If you aren’t traveling right now, you can consider making a bucket list on Google Maps to bookmark the places you want to go in the future. You can take a virtual trip on Street View for inspiration. Similarly, you can print photos of your wish list places to surround yourself with inspiring imagery of places you want to explore in the future.

Switch up your wellness routine

While many businesses (like some gyms and fitness studios) are still closed, there are many offering virtual classes that you can take from the comfort of your own home. You can now book fitness and mindfulness classes directly on Google Maps, so you can support local businesses while doing something positive for your wellness routine. We’ve curated a list of some highly-rated studios offering virtual classes to kick off your search to find the right class for you.

Practice mindfulness

Practicing mindfulness and incorporating meditation into your routine are popular forms of wellness activities that you can do at home. If you’re not sure where to start, you can revisit our free guided meditation for Local Guides from Headspace or check out our tips on mindfulness.

Connect with nature

Many experts agree that getting out in nature can potentially improve your mood. Long hikes into the wilderness may not be for everyone, so remember it can be something as simple as taking a walk around a local park. Those who are not able to take a walk can also have a similar experience by listening to nature sounds at home. You can even take a trip to different parks from your couch through Google Earth.

Nourish your body

Another main element of a balanced wellness routine is to make sure you’re nourishing your body with the nutrients it needs. What’s “healthy” might look different for everyone, so be sure to consult your doctor if you decide to switch up your diet. Remember that even if you aren’t going to restaurants at this time, you can consider ordering takeout from a healthy restaurant in your area. Don’t forget, you can add reviews on Google Maps to help out your favorite small businesses even if you’re eating the food at home.

Share helpful wellness information

Considering wellness when it comes to adding photos and reviews on Google Maps is something that Local Guides can do to help others. Taking pictures of signs posted on business doors and windows can help people understand health and safety precautions businesses have put in place. Share these photos on Google Maps to help keep others both informed and well.

Keep an eye out for more wellness content here on Connect each day this week. We have many things planned to share like healthy restaurants that Local Guides love, how to review a virtual fitness class, and wellness tips from Local Guides like you.

We’re always open to your ideas, too! Is there anything else you’d like us to cover during Local Guides Wellness Week? Let us know in the comments below.
