Yearly Google Sponsored Meet-up

We Can Have a Google Sponsored Meet-up yearly hosted by the Googlers in our communities. This can be done prior before the Summit always held at San Francisco or after, whatever way works for Google, am sure either before or after,  the community will appreciate them.

This will help spur and also motivate Local Guides who might not be selected to attend the Summit Google do organize in San Fransisco. We can have the Googlers visit our communities and hold sponsored meetup  aimed at Knowledge sharing of the Google Maps and the Local Guides program. I know perfectly well this will be beneficial to the community and also to  the Googlers. Local Guides could get to meet some of the amazing Googlers who moderate this community in person. Googlers too will also have the opportunity to Travel, explore and visit different cities and also meet some of the Local Guides whom they interact with virtually as well. Am sure this won't cost anything.

e.g I Have seen some Googlers go on an adventure to look for Biryani in thier community, how about them trying out some new adventure like tasting the Nigerian Jollof ? Have a meet-up and roll out the invites to Local Guides

In like manner this can be done as well, having Photowalks, map edit walks, food crawl, accessibility meetups etc. All sponsored, you can also make great videos from such meet-ups as well to keep the social space more of in a Local Guides activities.

Hi Team, I hope this few points of mine can see this idea implemented.Caption a cross section of Local Guides from all over the world enjoying coffee and taking group photos during a joint global meetup eventCaption a cross section of Local Guides from all over the world enjoying coffee and taking group photos during a joint global meetup event

Hi Everyone,

I feel proud to contribute for Google Maps, not only it helps me achieve points but it helps my fellow city people. I was also selected for Connect Live 2018 because of my contributions but due to visa issues, I can't attend the summit but I am still motivated enough as I'm not the only one with this issue.

I would humbly request Google to organize more meetups or conferences like this and especially for Asians and African Region because I have seen how many participants face visa issues from this region.

Hi @AIMAN_SAEED

Yes I m agree with you, if Google can organise more meet ups and events in different countries, it will be more convincing for local guides, who faced or will face difficulty to get US visa.

@AIMAN_SAEED

I agree with your suggestion

As we know, US visa is not easy to give and many considerations. It would be better if Google held a summit for Asia and Africa so that it would be easier for local guides to join the event with almost the same events as in America.

I'm in support of this Annual Google-Sponsored Meet-Up. It will go a long way in boosting the morale of other Local Guides who may not be invited to Google Local Guides Summit in SF.

It would indeed be a great boost to local guides in our local communities and as @SanyaOdare mentioned it will probably give a sense of what it is like to attend the summits in San Francisco. If organised well, Google could even use these Annual Google Sponsored Meet-ups as a way of getting feedback for the summits. Looking forward to positive feedback in this regard.

very nice idea @HelloSamsonR

A typical example of this Annual Google-Sponsored Meet-Up was the "Map Your World Week" in 2007 (which I think was held in different LG Communities worldwide).

I remember it was my meeting Googlers like @HelloJess, @JuanCh and 60+ other Local Guides in Nigeria that "woke me up from my slumber" and got me becoming more passionate about my contributions to Google Maps.

I thought to myself way back then that if Google could send 2 Googlers all the way from U.S to Nigeria and 60+ Nigerians are already committed to updating info on Google Maps - then this is worth my while too.
