Where do I share Google Maps bugs?

@AriMar

Please forgive me but your generic announcement does not given us any useful pointers as to where we can go to report a fault on Google Maps.

This is a long-term ongoing situation and the submit feedback option is less than acceptable.

Another Local Guide submitted details of a problem to that link in June and has still not received a response 3 months later.

In my case I have not even had the courtesy of a canned e-mail response to confirm that my request for assistance was received.

What IS going on with this new, "improved" Connect 2.0 interface ?

Some of us joined Local Connect because we were in need of genuine support in order to do our voluntary work more effectively and all we get is fluff and vague guidelines about the correct ways to use Connect 2.0 and snarky comments when we post things in the wrong place.

We need to know where we can post the bugs and anomalies we find in Google Maps otherwise our time is being wasted and nobody seems prepared to do anything other than to ignore these mission-critical issues.

If you know of any Googler, Google Administrator or moderator who might be will to provide some genuine forms of help then please let us all know.

Thank you for your time and patience.

I realised that I failed to spot a typo in my previous message and that Connect 2.0 will NOT allow us to edit any of our contributions on this page    ( ho-hum ).

The full sentence should have read :

"If you know of any Googler, Google Administrator or moderator who might be willing to provide some genuine forms of help then please let us all know."

Why are such essential bread-and-butter issues not given sufficient priority anymore ?

@Jesi
@AriMar

Thank you for your attempt to help but I am afraid that what you have posted is actually misinformation as you should be able to see if you look at this screenshot which I took a few minutes ago.

The three dots are in the upper righthand corner of our comments and there is NO option to edit the contents.

That is apparently due to yet another "design decision" imposed on us from "on high" ...

I realise that you meant well and I am truly grateful for your response.

Thank you.

Dear @Jesi

Please do not asked for this issue to be moved to or buried in another part of the forum.

The "Ideas Exchange" has become a catch-all hospice where good ideas go to die and not everyone can afford to be patient after a period of 3 months.

In Connect 1.0 there was a public feedback section which was removed in Connect 2.0 ("by design") and now unless a particular issue gains popular support via voting it will sink to the bottom of the heap and be forgotten.

That is becoming increasingly apparent to a number of Local Guides now but still very little is being done other than to have these issues swept under the carpet time and time again.

If you have to go to a car repair shop when your vehicle  developed a fault would you find it acceptable to be subjected to some kind of voting system which meant that you would have to win some kind of popularity contest in order  to get your car fixed ?

It is the same humiliating situation that Local Guides are now expected to endure  thanks to those who  have been appointed to  "know best".

@Atsukot

I can assure you that no fraud is involved in this technical error as I know the heads of the various charitable organisations personally and can vouch for them.

What may have happened some time about in the past was that one of these groups (RISE) was in two separate but adjacent locations which is why they used to give a dual address of 99 and 103 The Broadway, West Ealing.

Somehow this became 99-103 The Broadway and then when they moved out of 99 the remaining space on Google Maps seems to have been given over to 97A by mistake (at the Google Maps or Street View end).

It has taken me several weeks to investigate this in depth by going back and forth between Google Earth, Google Street View and Google Maps and it may or may not have much to do with the issue although I strongly suspect that it has.

Unfortunately the only thing I get from the appointed moderators has been the same-old same-old irrelevant and generic "advice" and my opinion of this forum has been deeply affected by that.

It looks like this will issue have to go to a much higher level of management to resolve since there seems to be  a general unwillingness for any of the moderators to help out in any pragmatic way.

Ealing Council may also have to be involved unless this issue can be resolved quickly as major public meetings have been organised at this particular community hub and residents need to be able to locate it on Google Maps.

That is why Connect 2.0 appears to be just a pretty  showcase that has very little substance behind it.

Colour me disappointed.

Status changed to: Closed

As addressed elsewhere, the Idea Exchange is where Local Guides can submit ideas for improvement as described in this post which describes how to best use this area. The most popular pieces of feedback are shared directly with the product teams on a regular basis.

If further Google Maps support is needed, we urge you to visit the Google Maps Help Forum

Note: Due to the volume of private messages Googlers receive, I do not read or respond to private messages. Please post publicly so others may benefit from your discussion. If you require urgent assistance, please tag a Google Moderator. Thank you!.

Adressing a quite important issue, the bug report system is horrible and definately needs improvements

@Thimon

As you can see this issue has been CLOSED DOWN and all further voting has been effectively blocked.

I seem to remember that there were a few other comments added to this thread like yours but they appear to have been deleted now.

If this is truly meant to be a genuine community forum then the Ideas Exchange system really deserves to be debated openly and without autocratic censorship via immediate closure.

Bien cordialement

Hi aka_Ron

Hmm maybe you could try accessing Google Map's Preview app? It's like the beta app of Google maps on which all the tests are done and probably more keen on receiving bugs reports.

Hope this helps!

Rgds
