Weather while using directions

, I feel that with the technology Google Maps could share the weather forecast for a particular route.  If nothing else I feel that "warnings" or "closures" would be extremely helpful to the user.

This is a great idea. My google maps already warn me of backups on my commute route and I love it. It helps me decide which way to go home. With this idea, it would be helpful if the roads are slick on any given day when there is snow or ice.

Hi @Movnman1968,

Thanks for sharing with us.

It is quite interesting, as the suggested feature could help a driver to determine the route as to avoid unwanted weather conditions, as @BrandonW272 mentioned.

Would you mind elaborating a bit more, as it may ease up the understanding of your idea for the community. Can you share a screenshot? I can be helful as a visual explanation as well. : ]

Regarding your sedond inquiry, you may gather additional informaton at How to report Blocked streets?

@Movnman1968 @I believe that Google maps does this to some degree. I know that on my daily route to work while using the commute button Maps tells me if there are delays. As shown in the screenshot. It will show up red and supply the amount in minutes (+2 example) of how much of a delay it will be. For my situation. I can take streets or highway to my work or home. Google maps allows me to choose which direction will take me to my location more expediently. Is this what you are meaning. I don’t have any closures right now in my area so I couldn’t show an example of that, but I will try to be on the lookout for one.

I am sorry I was not able to include the screenshot at this time. It said the photo file was too big, and I do not have time at this moment to change the file size. I will try to give you gentleman a good example as soon as I can.

Hi @BrandonW272,

It would be indeed great to seek for specifics that can help improve Google Maps.

Please, take your time! : ]

I am not sure what more I can say to make it easier to understand.  I am afraid I dont have any other information for you.  I merely have an idea not necessarily the way to do it.

Again, my idea was that it would be nice if Google maps had updated weather conditions or forecast available for those using Google Maps as a GPS.  If I am driving from Pensacola, FL to Nashville, TN and have entered this information into my device I was hoping that I would be warned of any weather related issues that I would need to avoid along my route.

I also think this is a great idea.  Weather is always a factor when on a motorcycle, car, or even walking.  I am surprised this has not been added already.   Let me give you this use case.

I do a lot of motorcycle touring and camping (about 30,000 miles a year).

It would be nice to have a weather overlay in Google Maps that would show the current radar summary for the area and along a planned route.  This would allow me to adjust my route to compensate for bad weather and possibly avoid some of the more severe stuff.

It would even help improve safety especially in the spring and fall when snow is a real possibility.   Knowing that those clouds ahead were dropping snow and not rain could save a motorcyclists life.

If you wanted to take it a step farther add a temperature overlay as well. I can't count the number of times when I started the day out somewhere cold and just wanted to ride to somewhere warm.

Basically just combine my weather app with Google maps and we would have the best mapping/GPS/social/location finding tool in the world!

Here is how I would suggest the interface operate.

Under the map type option could be a button that turn this on or off as the user desires.

When fully zoomed in and using navigate feature no weather overlay showing but offer a pop up alert if severe weather has been predicted in the area you are going and when zoom out it should highlight to affected area.  This is important because people traveling in new areas do not know the counties they travel through and most weather alerts on the radio and even civil defense alerts and  NOAA usually only give counties affected.

When you zoom out to the county level it would be nice to have the option to see the current static radar summary without any radar history or motion

When you zoom out to the state level it would be nice to be able to overlay the last couple of hours of radar summary and if possible the radar forecast (most weather apps do this already).

In the case of really severe (tornados, hail, blizzard, ect) weather it would be nice to see a notification pop up while in any mode.

This feature could add safety to all motorist in tornado conditions for example.

Hi, Most of the times I feel there should be an estimate weather forecasting on Google Maps. I live in New Delhi and I often travel to Gurgaon, Haryana which is almost 30 Kms from my home. Sometimes, the weather of Delhi becomes Hot and while travelling it suddenly starts raining or Vice Versa. Google Maps should show an idea of weather.

Thanks
