Did you mean:

Pop-Up for "fact checking" if you contributed to a place with photos / review

This proposal is coming from a recent (bad) experience.

A place very well known and historical Abbey has been closed in Google Maps. I have noticed it checking my photos contribution, where now my picture is shown for an "unknown place"

My suggestion is that Local Guides (being Local experts) can be prompted for a fact checking, for confirming that a place where they contributed with photos and reviews is Closed, or has been modified (e.g. Name change, or different category).

I would limit this option to photos and reviews only, because an edit can be made also by a spammer, so I do not want a spammer to refuse a modification of a not legittimate edit

Hi there @ErmesT from the feeling that I get from your idea; I feel like voting in favor of it. But for my Knowledge I wish to know the issue as well as the solution (idea) more clearly. Because I could not get the things fully..

Please pardon my naivety..😐🙏

Of course @GhazalaShah, you are right, so I will try to explain it better.

The issue (a legitimate place was closed) is the reason for starting the idea.

I will talk in a separate post, of course, for reporting this non legitimate closure.

What I am proposing is: Contributing to the place, (adding pictures), I demostrate to Google Maps that the place exist, and that I know the place.

Later someone flagged this place as closed, (is not closed, btw). In the future I would like to receive a message from Google Maps (together with all the LGs that contributed in there with photos and reviews), inviting us to a "fact checking" about this place, (as it is on my list of contribution), for confirming or deny the edit made by somebody else

Hey! Dear @ErmesT! Totally agreed without any confusion..

Actually I sent feedbacks a few times to maps about related issues..That kindly, for our learning and for sparring us from pouring energies in the work to be taken down later; guide us about why our work was taken down. In fact many of the very genuine reviews are taken down. I understand sometimes things are complex..& to stay uncontroversial maps have to comply with the expression policies of every country so.. now I take this lightly and keep moving on 😏

@ErmesT totally agree with you! many times I saw wrong information about places that I edited. I don't know who edit information but I want to be prompted for a fact checking. Especially when I know very well this place.

Agree with you! @ErmesT

@ErmesT what exactly you mean by "can be prompted for a fact checking" ?

any use case in clear English?

Thank you for asking @Oleksandr

What I mean is that, if someone suggest (edit) the closure of a business where I have contributed with photos and review, I want to receive a message from the app. Here I am showing the desktop version, as I am on desktop right now

Google Maps is actually sending a lot of messages to us, about writing reviews or adding photos. I appreciate this but, why not also about status (and name, I would like to add) changed by someone?

Using the experience of the Local Guides, we can avoid, or at least refuse, a lot of inappropriate modifications of the map

@ErmesT ok, now clear, I would express such idea by "Pop-UP for "fact checking"

in the same time, fake LGs will get this Prompted Pop-UP and can confirm fake edit.

I think some weighted score should be established.

for example, to enforce edit, place owner (manager, creator) need to approve, or  500 (votes) LGs needed to confirm this fact.

and Level 10 LG has 100 points, and level 1 -  only 1 point to contribute.

so we need 5 LG Lever10 to vote, or 500 Lever 1 LG to confirm the edit.

Some scoring system would be established, and Level 1-5.

Or even more, If LG lever 10 submit edit we need 100 votes only to approve edit as it is more trusted.

Thank you for the helpful feedback @Oleksandr

The title of the idea has been modified according to your suggestion, very appreciated.

I agree with you about giving priority to high level LGs, but I have some doubt about the LG that created the listing, because in this way it will be impossible to close a fake business. That's why I suggested to send the Pop-Up only to persons that, adding photos and reviews, contributed to give to the business a real life. I know that a group of coordinated spammer can create a business, and add photos and reviews (we already experienced this in London, at least, with the fake florist - isnt't it @Pea?) but we can try to reduce the damage
