Polygon Feature

I think google can bring back polygon feature in google maps, or may be implement polygon feature in a new way so that we can add a new polygon or edit the existing one. I think it was a nice feature on previous Maps Maker, although many local guides miss used this. I request to google to implement polygon on google maps, so we can update our own locality because we know our locality better than other. To avoid miss use this feature google can allow Top level local guides may it can started from level 7 or level 8.

In my country lots of water features like: Lake, Canal and small River are not shown on google maps, google need to allow us to add this features on google maps.

Check out that image below, it has an park in it and shows in how much area this park is.A park in sultanpurlodhi, punjab, INDIAA park in sultanpurlodhi, punjab, INDIANow here tye main thing is as you can see that area of park is not correct it is going to another side of road too. Please give local guides power to edit parks area and add new parks area on google maps to fix all error in existing parks area or to add new one parks area on maps.

I suggest Google Maps authorize more easily the creation of new missing places inside National Parks and other similar conservation units.

We must agree that the area usually covered by a Conservation Unit is broad enough to receive many pins and places to be visited, checked in and evaluated by Google Maps users such as waterfalls, river rapids, peaks, view points and other attactions amongst the trails.

Instead of checking in only to the mayor site, I suggest that local guides with certain level could be allowed to add this locations.

We have to remember that visitors usually spend a lot of time exploring all the spots inside a National Park.

I’ve had the difficulty to add places inside Iguassú National Park in Brasil and Argentina, as well as Serra dos Órgãos National Park, Canaima National Park in Venezuela, and Cordón del Plata Province Park in Argentina.

I guarantee that Google Maps would become a much better “guide book” for hikers, trekkers and backpackers if we improve the plataform this way.

One of the weirdest things I think about when I'm editing or updating a place on Google Maps, is where to place the pointer. The pointer is rather specific, but doesn't really tell me how big the store is, where the entrance is etc. I always try to use the pointer to mark the entrance or the middle of the store, but sometimes there are multiple entrances, so that is not working.

My suggestions would be to add a polygon for a place, instead  of a pointer. This should be rather simple to do, because they already have that for some locations (most of them older locations from the "Map Maker" era). If you are zoomed out, there will of only pointers visible (like it is now), but as soon as you're zoomed in to see the actual buildings on the map, you could see the polygon for the locations.

For example, when you look for a city or country on Google Maps, it will also show the contour of that city or country. The same functionality could be added to the locations.

Of course this would mean that there is some work to add these polygons. But I'm pretty sure that if you give us (Local Guides) the tools that would go rather fast.

Next to the polygon, it would also be nice if we could start adding some more internal information like entrance, fire extinguishersn, elevators, toilets etc to those polygons.

Thank you!

In my area there are many missing green areas representing parks, yellow areas representing beaches, blue areas representing lakes, grey areas representing town boundaries etc.

I've reported these to Google countless times and only one to date has been implemented.

Could the adding points to draw a shape system used in Android right now, be expanded to include the ability to draw out these shapes?

Hi @glennoconnell,

I think you have a great proposal. You are not alone in having trouble finding ways to successfully send feedback to the map layer. Anything to make the process easier would be a huge advantage.

Cheers

Hello @glennoconnell,

It seems what you're suggesting is to be able to add polygons to Google Maps.
