Dear Google Guides,
I recently sent this feedback to Google for their consideration.
1. As I live in Europe, I think that Google Guides need to provide the same 'face masking' ability as in Google Street View. This is due to the May 2018 implementation of EU GDPR. I don't think Google (nor the Google Guide photo uploader) is authorised to display other people's faces in photos which are shared as part of Google Guides.
2. When I am prompted to upload photos, I think two filters should be applied:
a. Do not propose that I upload photos which contain faces (see GDPR reason above).
Currently, I have to be very careful that I do not upload any photos which contain faces belonging to my family, friends or other 'strangers' in the photos.
Again, Google's 'face identification' algorithm (used in Google Street View and Google Photos) could prevent these photos from being suggested for upload.
(Aside: I am often shocked by the personal photos that I see other Google Guides have uploaded. I don't think photos of babies, children or families should be eligible/allowed for upload. Or if they are allowed, they should automatically be face-masked.)
b. Do not propose (repeatedly) that I upload more photos for a location where I have already uploaded photos previously.
The result of this is that I 'pollute' the quality of the photos I've already decided to share. I don't want to share 6 photos of exactly the same or very similar photo shot. I only want to share the first (best) one that I chose to share.
As a result, this forces me to manually delete these 'duplicate' photos afterwards.
