Perks

There needs to be a well laid out perk system which clearly tells what one will get at what stage. At the moment, it is almost put in a way where it gives you an impression that you will be rewarded as you go but isn't so. Google needs to say that this is upto an extent, purely community service in a way.

I completely agree with you. I started contributing because I love researching, discovering hard to find data, and helping others by sharing learned knowledge; however, I did not realize how time consuming even just one session can be. When time consumption became a concern, I began focusing on the players and this process as a whole.

I reexamined my neutral position after exploring the benefits Google receives from our contributions. From the free labor to monetary compensation and everything in between, Google is taking our generosity to the bank and back, while also increasing their ratings and positive public perception.

I appreciate the profile badges, I really do - but after considering the gross reward benefits they are collecting thanks to our free labor, my view of Google is becoming significantly less favorable. I sincerely hope your suggestion of a concrete approach to awarding perks is realized. That level of transparency should have been implemented from the start.

Thank you so much for sharing your suggestion.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, @Sumanth_. Your idea is getting closed since it is already clarified that perks may be offered from time to time as a form of occasional gratitude. You can also turn to Local Guides Programme Terms and Conditions to refresh your knowledge of the program.

Also, to maximize your chances of being eligible for a future perk opportunity, adding high quality contributions to Google Maps is the way to go. Please also be sure that your email preferences have perks emails enabled by visiting your Local Guides settings.
