Meet-up Alerts for Local Guides

Local Guides come from all walks of life, most of us very enthusiastic about every bit of the program, but without the luxury of constantly checking the meet-up board to see what's being hosted near us. That's why I think we should get the option of signing up for meet-up notifications in our registered Local Guide locations, that way, when a meet-up is hosted by someone within so short a period, you simply get an  email message informing you about the hosted meet-up near your location and you decide if it fits into your calendar or not.

When I visit the Meet-Up Board I do not see any Meet-Ups in the U.S. or more importantly in my local region. i.e., NY NJ or CT  

I would imagine that if there were any Meet-Ups near me in the U.S. that these would be listed first.

Am I correct in assuming that the AI engine should recognize my location and prioritize by increasing distance?  

Will we be able to, one of these days, configure the areas for which we wish to be Notified when there are upcoming Meet-Ups?

Thank you for reaching out. As you have noticed, at the moment I can confirm that there is no Meet-Up scheduled in the U.S.

Your suggestions for receiving notifications in case of a Meet-up in a favorite geographical area could be a useful addition to Google Maps.

In addition to Local Guides Maps Meetups I also use meetup.com and the big difference between that and Maps Meetups is the ability to opt in for notifications based on location and topic. It would be awesome if Maps Meetups did this and emailed me when someone created a Meetup within X km of my place of interest. The Meetup based meetups always attract 25 to 75 people. For a LG Meetup to get that sort of numbers I have to slide into people's DM's to interest them on a personal level which is both a lot of effort and only brings in the regulars.

I could definitely use this function, in fact I had just submitted the same idea in the wrong label (I deleted it as soon as I saw this one).

I think that these notifications should be optional, as there are Local Guides in the city who aren't interested in meet ups or others in whose cities many meet ups are created and don't want to receive that many mails.

This feature, if turned on by default, could even encourage more Local Guides to join meet ups.

I fully agreed to this new feature requirement.

Personally I have experienced the lack of information communicated with the nearby interested local guides.

Yes  dear @Shirley,

The first thing other local guides share is that, they were not informed. 

This feature is the need of the hour, for hosting organized, well informed meetup

Yes dear @Anonymous,

It is very essential feature, google team can consider.

The strange thing happened this time is, i have been searching for meetup in my city (Chennai, India). But there was no search result, just manually search the meetups list found one from my city itself. 

I too admin our city whatsapp group, none of them were aware of this meetup. But many are eager to join in meetups.

So notification is a best tool to keep LG updated, specially people like me technically not very sound.

Thanks for the support @JohnPeter @Jesi @fdenigi I'm hoping once Connect 2.0 project finishes up that attention will go back to Meetups. I really enjoy the real life Meetups and it has become hard to find them.
