Live train Tacking

Hello everyone,

I am from India and people in India are more depended on trains and I would like to share my idea.

1) allowing a live tracking of a train on maps will be helpful for commuters:

Giving an offline download of train route the (from boarding station to the destination) so that the passenger is aware to where he has reached (in India there is no proper network connectivity)

ADDING THESE FEATURE CAN BE HELPFUL FOR TRAIN COMMUTERS

In the Netherlands, the Dutch Railway company (NS) has its own app that does show you where your train is. So whilst waiting on the platform, you can check on the App how close your train is to the station. So technically, it can be done.

Hello @melroygeorge, thank you for sharing this idea. It is not something the team is able to implement at this time but we will consider all ideas, regardless of status, in future program iterations.

We are constantly working to improve our real time coverage for all modes and want to bring it to as many places as possible including trains. Watch this space for more developments.

In my area (the Near Eastside of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA) we have several active train tracks. These tracks periodically block traffic for 5-15 minutes at a time and at this time it does not seem they receive consideration in the Google maps system. Perhaps other locations already have this taken into consideration, and if so, hopefully it will be simple to add this to our area as well. It's possible, of course that I'm mistaken about this integration. However, if this is not yet something Google Maps accounts for, I strongly recommend including it as soon as possible for all areas affected by active train tracks.
