I just finish sign-up to https://discussions.fedoraproject.org
I am really impressed with their robot based new member tutorial delivered through private messaging.
The process is like this:
1. Upon first sign-in, a spotlight is shown on the Alert indicator, asking to click on it
2. Once clicked, it bring to me a welcome private message from a robot
3. In the message, there is a challenge for a reply. I need to reply with the correct content based on the challenge.
4. When I successfully complete all the challenges, a digital certificate of achivement is issued to me.
Types of challenges include:
- include URLs in a reply
- include emojis in a reply, using either keyboard 🙂 or emoji editor
- like a message
- mention the robot in a reply
- include bold and italic text in a reply, using keyboard code or buttons in the editor
- quote part of a message in a reply
- include a picture in a reply
- flag a message as inappropriate
- do a simple search
I am not saying Connect's tutorial must include all of the above elements, a good tutorial will help new members settle in Connect much better.
A robot based auto reply system can have a lot of good users also.
