I'd love to be able to use my photos from external sources without hitting the limit

By external sources, I meant some other photo sharing services like Google Photos or imgur. It's just not very convenient to having download the photo first, then uploading it to the Connect post.

I think it's a known fact that Connect has a hard limit of photos that can be posted. No matter how conservative we are in posting photos, sooner or later we will hit the cap.

I would love the ability to post photos directly from my Google Photos album, and not having it counted against the cap.I know Lithium is not a Google product and I don't know how complex it is to build the feature, but I thought it just makes sense since most Local Guides takes photos with their phone and use Google Photos for storage/ backup purpose.

As for Imgur, technically we can reference an imgur link to get the photo, but (to my understanding)  it's basically getting the photo and having it uploaded, making it to be counted as part of the quota (please correct me if I'm wrong).

It's something really needed.

I actually use Explain and send screenshots chrome extension to do this work quickly: https://jasonsavard.com/it-IT/Explain-and-Send-Screenshots

Hi @liquidblack ! There is this option as Traci wrote last year (maybe someone - could you @IrrPavlova managed it ? - have to put that post in evidence or move in the appropriate section - now the Traci post is under "General Discussion" and not in the "Help Desk" or "How-Tos" sections! )  :

  • If you create or edit your post using HTML instead of the default Rich Text Editor Screen Shot 2017-11-16 at 3.44.34 PM.png, you can insert the following HTML to link to an image that is hosted elsewhere, like on Google Photos. That's right, you can right click on a Google Photos image to copy the image URL, then replace the text "IMAGEURL" in the below HTML with your photo's complete URL to insert your image and it will not count against your limit.

The HTML is: <img src="IMAGEURL"> Remember, it must be your image's URL, not a website's URL.

Bye,

Hi @davidhyno unfortunately Google Photos images cannot referred using HTML tag, because are not rendered as plain images. 😉

Hi @LucioV !

In this way you insert only the "image URL"  in the post and not the photo itself but switch in the Rich Text or Preview you can see the photo.

Have you tried?

@davidhyno I have the insert image HTML code in my Macros one year before Traci suggested to use it 🙂 But if you copy and paste in html code the url of an image from Google Photos, this will not be rendered, because it's not actual an image url:

This is not going to work also using the image address or the share link feature.

Hi Lucio!

It's working for me : (do you remember something? 😉

"The HTML is: <img src="IMAGEURL"> Remember, it must be your image's URL, not a website's URL. "

@LucioV & @davidhyno - Thanks for your input but neither of your images are showing; see the image below for what shows up, both when I am logged in and when I am anonymous.

To be clear to others reading this - I am proposing a proper integrated Google Photos option rather than a HTML "hack" to get this to work - it needs to be user friendly

I understand your request @liquidblack that's what we were asking since years.

Anyway, visibility of my and @davidhyno images depends on the privacy level we set in Google Photos 😉

Hi @liquidblack!

Yes, an integration of Google Photos will be great : I guess not everyone is coding in html! And that's why I voted for your proposal!

Bye and have a good day!
