I got this idea while shopping with my girlfriend. What if there was a way to view a particular grocery store the way we view Google Maps? What I mean is this, right now when we want to shop online we can see categories or departments in which to shop. What if there was a way to take a video or still frames of the aisles and then rather than viewing categories of items in the store, we could actually view the aisles. Like we do in street view in Google Maps. Say you are in the store and you cannot find an obscure item (or even a common item) but you are not familiar with that particular store. Wouldnt it be neat to be able to open the Google Grocery Map and type in the item name and it shows you what aisle it is on and even gives you a viewpoint on where the item resides in that store. Home Depot has something similar to this, and I think it is pretty neat. I have talked to some developers about the idea, but the feedback I get is that it is a great idea, but would be difficult to present. The reasoning is that the stores own the merchandise. My response to that is that the stores can use location services to advertise on the Google Grocery Map or App, whatever you wanted to call it. It would be a win-win for the stores and the consumer. I look forward to your comments.
Hi @BrandonW272 , Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us - we value your insights! It is quite an ambitious idea, as for the moment, as you and @PaulOBrien mentioned, for the moment it isn’t feasible to pursue. Follow up to that, I have changed the status of the idea. In the meantime, you may also check the Google Maps Indoors , perhaps if you may have any ideas that can be built on from there. Do not hesitate to share with us on Idea Exchange. : ]
