Arrow issue - first use of navigation on Google Maps

Hi guys,

I just would like to let you know that when we use navigation mode for the first in Google Maps, it doesn't show the arrow in the direction we are going (the maps is north orientated). It just shows the blue circular point.

We have to press on the compass to get the arrow.

My concern is that the first I used it, I was lost and I didn't know what to do to make it works with the arrow.

Few days ago, I spoke with my brother and he told me that he used the navigation for the first time and he had the same issue. He didn't know what to do to get the arrow. He had to stop and had to ask someone in the street. He finally got it sorted but it was a pain.

My suggestion would be to have the option of the arrow directly for the first use. The application would work fine and better directly. It would avoid people to look for the option to get their way.

I hope my explanations are clear and helpful

Thanks in advance

Hello @Julien44, thank you so much for sharing the idea with us! We will look into this and see what we can do.

Level 8

Begining from half of January, there is no compass icon, so now we can't press on the compass together the arrow. 😕

Hi @Julien44

Does the problem mention by you indeed exists?

I use the navigation feature extensively. I always see the arrow right from the beginning.
However, I use the beta version of the app.

Nevertheless, I face the following two problems creating a lot of trouble

1. That happens especially when I am at a new place where the sense of directions is hazy. The navigation arrow emerges there immediately. However, the course may be 180 degrees opposite of that in which the car is oriented.

I realize that after a few meters travel. By that time the navigation recalculates the route & creates a detour.

2. The second problem occurs at the time of left or right turn to a lane which has another lane just adjacent to that. Here the large size of the arrow does create a confusion many a time.

I suggest that at the time of a turn, let the arrow get converted into a dot to avoid such confounding.
