Ok ,so this is game changer, but I just found out how to zoom in AND MORE IMPORTANTLY zoom out with one hand!
If you are using just one hand (usually when I am trying to navigate while riding my bicycle) zoom in, as you know, you can double tap and maps will zoom in a frame. Repeat, and it will zoom in again. But then how do you zoom out? Normally, it requires to stop, hold the phone in one hand, and use two fingers to swipe out with the other hand (something hard to do with just one hand, unless you have immense hand flexibility skills, to which I applaud 
).
But alas, the real solution:
double tap and hold. Then slide your held finger up to zoom out, or slide down to zoom in.
Been using maps app for many years, and just found out about this. Blew my mind. Am I the only one who didnt know???
