Zero-Waste Lifestyle

Hi! I’m Niva, local guide from Malaysia. I’m zero waste beginner and have been practicing zero waste lifestyle for quite some time now. This local guide platform create opportunity for me to share my zero-waste journey. Hope I can inspire more people indulge in zero waste lifestyle to save our mother earth. Zero-waste is a way much cooler than you think and makes you look trendier. Most of the things that we used in our daily basis including toothbrush, food containers, skin care products are packaged in/made of plastics. Avoiding plastic in our daily life might seems to be the most challenging task but it’s possible with some simpler steps. Even I tend to forget bringing my own shopping bag sometimes and end up carrying all by hands. We can’t be hero overnight but simple actions from us will shape healthy environment for our next generations. The great news is we can shop amazing range of Eco-friendly and sustainable products from our local zero waste stores aimed to reduce wastage. Once you started, you will never quit. It will become a habit.

Below pictures shows how am I practicing zero waste lifestyle on my daily basis.

Have you even wonder where the used plastic products end up at?
Most of them end up in landfill and eventually into the ocean. Every year, 8 million tonnes of plastic waste end up in the ocean and over 100 million marine animals being killed by plastic. Plastic bags can take between 20 to 1000 years to decompose. Reusable bags are environmental friendly. Switching to reusable bags will reduce usage of plastic in long term run. Do you know that those conventional products contain harsh chemicals. Most of them packaged in plastic containers.

Do you know that plastic straws can take between 200 to 500 years to degrade. Let’s say NO to Plastic straws and go for reusable straws.

Do you know that plastic toothbrush invented in the 1930 s. We have been advised to change toothbrush 3 months once. Can you imagine how many plastic toothbrushes still exist on this planet today.

Thanks for sharing your zero-waste experience. I’m really concerned about the global problem of plastic. This week I’ve accepted the challenge of refusing everything packaged in plastic, I guess it’s going to be complicated but I’ll do my best. I’ll post here in Connect how is going, we, google local guides, can contribute a lot if we all share our experiences. Thanks again for sharing yours. Best regards from Huelva (Spain)

Hi @EliasDeMora , it was pleasure to know that you are going to contribute for a good cause in effort for saving our dearest mother earth by taking up this plastic-free challenge. Best of luck for the challenge. Looking forward for your post.

Hi @NivaRachai ,

This is a great post and I hope more and more people get concerned with our plastic problem. I know that it can be quite complicated, but if each of us tries with small things, it’s already a step forward. It’s really sad that almost everything is in plastic and most of the times it’s unavoidable, but I myself would like to use less and support a cleaner planet.

Thank you for sharing!

Hi @DanniS , thank you for acknowledging the post. Totally agree with the fact that plastic is unavoidable on our daily basis. It was devastating to see millions of marine animals being killed by plastic microparticles. We, human beings play key role to reduce usage of plastic that harmful for us as well as other living things on earth. Definitely simple action from you, I and others will shape better environment.
