Hello , local guides around the world ! I am Schneider Salazar, a Colombian local guide, and I want to tell you why I started to contribute and share information in Google Maps and how I became a local guide.
I started a couple of years ago when I found on Maps the perfect opportunity to share my experiences with other people and in that way help them to make decisions about specific places. It is very important to me to inform others, so people will be able to release the prejudices that they often have about some places, because without knowing them some people (even ourselves) may already give them a “rating” in our mind. Maybe you have passed by it or have stopped visiting a place just because you have heard from someone you know it was too expensive or not interesting at all. There is where I want to help as a local guide, I am interested in showing all the information from different views, either for those who have a good budget or for those who don’t.
Traveling and exploring the world does not have to be always expensive, it’s just a matter of organizing ourselves, having good information, highlighting priorities and having a lot of positive attitude. For example: in my country, Colombia, a lot of people stop traveling or visiting places near their own city just because they think they are going to spend a lot of money doing it. Although with my contributions I want to help people from all over, I am particularly interested in helping people in my country to put aside their prejudices and learn to know their country without spending a lot of money.
I hope that over the years, there will be many people who can benefit from my contributions in this way and that they can clear up doubts before visiting a place, I love helping people in that way and I would never want to stop doing it. I am willing to be a local guide committed to helping others.
