I live in a small city where most people use cars as main mean of transportation to commute. One day I had very important job interview, and the night before, I did what I always do whenever I am headed somewhere is to check google maps to see how long it will take to get to my destination and what the best route is. So next morning I got prepared after having calculated the time according to google maps and set off to the interview. Unfortunately, on the route I took there was one of the critical routes was closed due to constructions and it wasn’t reported, so I had to change the route which cost me significant time to reach my destination. Eventually, I got there late, which left negative impression to the interviewer and resulted in messing up the whole interview and not being offer the job.
Fortunately, one missed job opportunity is not the end of the world, but I started to think what if this trip was a life threating emergency, then the consequences could be someone’s life.
My message I want to deliver is that, anyone could be in such situation, so by contribution to improve google maps, we are not only improving the service, but also we could be saving people’ lives.
Thank you!
