As a local guide, I have taken the pleasure, whenever I can, of being “there” physically at locations I describe. It is one thing to just pass by a place and a different other to experience a place to which you have been. With my handy phone camera, I set out updating, describing and correcting various locations on the maps.
While it doesn’t ever seem much at the time of data entry, the encouragement I receive from seeing my updates to the map help so many people, with all the upvotes - is priceless.
I like to describe the place, tell my experience being or getting there, post pictures of views and landmarks and give a hint what to expect if you went there.
It is such a good feeling… that is, being part of a progressive team that delivers a growing What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get result every time you search out a location. Most of us have never met ourselves, but the job gets done daily and is effective. Oh! and thank you google for the perk. Really thoughtful of you.
Lagos, Nigeria, in which I dwell, can be a pretty frustrating city to live and work in.
Temperatures are high, traffic congestions are frustrating and certain, pollution is heavy and smiles are rare as you traverse many bad roadways. One would always wish to be be isolated from the madness. Whilst it is wishful thinking to completely Isolate oneself, we know at least that transit time can be cut down by using the google maps to navigate the city.
Maps has improved so much with the addition of new places and routes.
Now I must confess, having the cheat sheet to transiting Lagos roads in google maps is heavenly.
You can leave home with a greater assurance that an assessment of the route you’re about plying has been done and up to date analyses of road conditions are given to you as you move. You get this confidence that the map will lead you right and on time to your destination.
