I’d love to write more than one review for a place. I’ve left review for places I visited many year’s ago but I’d love to see a section where you can add updates to those reviews or after a certain amount of time you can write and additional reviews for the same place. I just feel this will just allow reviews to feel more relevant as things change, good or bad.

That’s exactly why, time by time, we are invited to edit a review that we wrote in the past when we visit a place again.
Feel free to edit your review, adding your note about the changes of the location.
Keeping our old reviews updated will help other to have always the most recent view of a place
I don’t seem to get that notification. Is it only for some countries?

Not sure, @waza28 , but I think most probably it depends of the settings in the App
I’ve never had the chance to add updates I just have to edit my review… and I write (updated). But reviews over time tell you a story but I would love to be able to demonstrate that I go regularly.

I also don’t get these updates and I’m in the UK.
I see, @zeemirza , and of course you can add that you are regular customer on your review.
Google give us the possibility to add only one review, and in case to update it, for a good reason: the possibility of alterations of the business rating.
Rating is the average value of the reviews of a business, and the possibility of adding more than one review to a single user may have a big impact on it.
Try to imagine a wave of positive (or negative reviews) from the same customers, just with the intention to modify the rating of a business.
But of course it is perfectly fine to update our reviews, if our experience has changed, or if something new has been introduced by the business.
I personally do this very frequently, and I have updated some of my reviews also four times

You can always update or edit your previous review in two simple ways:

You have to search for the business or place for which you want to edit your previous review. The review you will see under that business or place is yours only. Select the edit option and update your review.

Whenever you revisit the same business or place you have previously visited and given review, you get a notification in the Google map that you want to update your review? You can either skip or Select the option for the update. For such update you will get additional 5 points.
I have tried to explain the solution in simple ways. Hope this will help.

@zeemirza … And additionally What I do as a practice is that I do not delete my previous review as that was the experience I had earlier.
Rather I put an extra paragraph by highlighting that this is my experience/review after the recent most visit. Please see the below one of such examples from my profile.
