Write an article about Google Maps

Well, the subject was the prompt I typed into chatGPT and it wrote the following text. Interestingly it didn’t mention Local Guides at all although it new about business entries. I’m glad the AI does not yet know about everything :).

Google Maps is a web mapping service developed by Google. It offers satellite imagery, street maps, 360° panoramic views, street view, real-time traffic conditions, and route planning for traveling by foot, car, bicycle, or public transportation.

One of the most popular features of Google Maps is the ability to get directions for various modes of transportation. Whether you’re driving, biking, walking, or taking public transportation, Google Maps can provide you with step-by-step directions to your destination, as well as estimated travel times and any potential delays.

Another great feature of Google Maps is the ability to view and explore different locations around the world. You can zoom in and out of satellite imagery and street maps to get a better understanding of a specific area, and you can also use the Street View feature to take a virtual tour of a location. This can be especially useful for people who are planning a trip to a new place and want to get a sense of what the area looks like before they arrive.

Google Maps also offers a number of tools for businesses and organizations. For example, businesses can create a Google My Business listing, which allows them to manage their online presence across Google, including on Google Maps. Additionally, Google Maps API allows developers to integrate maps into websites and apps, making it easy for users to find directions, view maps, and explore locations.

In recent years, Google Maps has also been updated with new features like live traffic updates, which provides real-time information on traffic conditions and can help you avoid delays. There is also a feature called “live view” which uses augmented reality to help users navigate unfamiliar areas.

Overall, Google Maps is a powerful and versatile tool that can be used for a wide range of purposes, from getting directions to exploring new places to managing a business’s online presence. Whether you’re a regular user or a developer, Google Maps has something to offer.

Nice post @PaulPavlinovich that inspects Google Maps in the rapidly evolving technological landscape with chatGPT emerging as the latest talk-of-the-town.

I think it did not mention about the local guides program either because it genuinely did not want to digress from the topic you sought information on or that the local guides program indeed is loosely coupled with Google Maps to the extent that even chatGPT could not notice any obvious relation between the two

Hi @PaulPavlinovich thank you for share. In fact, most people are unaware of the power of local guides. Local guides in many countries direct many innovations and beauties. I also believe that Google should be a bit more pioneering in this regard. Unfortunately, the pandemic process has prevented some things, but in the following processes, more joint meetings and even international meetings are organized and local guides are organized. guides should be much better motivated. :facepunch:t2:

Perhaps @TusharSuradkar I did specifically ask it to explain Local Guides and it talked about tour guides who know the local area well which is close but not quite.

When I specifically asked it to tell me about Google Maps Local Guides it came up with

tell me about google maps local guides it came up with a technically correct but bland answer

Google Maps Local Guides is a program that allows users to contribute to Google Maps by sharing information about local businesses, places, and landmarks. Users can add reviews, photos, and information about businesses, as well as answer questions from other users about the area. In return, Local Guides can earn points, badges, and access to exclusive features on Google Maps. The program is open to anyone with a Google account, and it can be accessed through the Google Maps app on a mobile device or through the Google Maps website.

I think most users of Maps probably know “of” Local Guides but don’t bother to find out more @Gezendunyali even when they themselves undertake Local Guides like activities of reviews, edits, photos and videos.

You are right @PaulPavlinovich , unfortunately, many people do not have the effort to improve themselves.

Hi @PaulPavlinovich

This is interesting. I installed the ChapGPT extension called WebChatGPT from Futurepedia and asked the following question:

Write me an article on the powers of Local Guides on Google Maps

This is what it wrote:

Google Maps Local Guides are volunteers who contribute to the map platform to make it more accurate and up-to-date. They provide information and ratings for places, write reviews, share photos and videos, and answer questions about locations. The program was created to incentivize contributors, and Local Guides are rewarded for their contributions with points and higher levels, unlocking added benefits such as early access to new Google products and perks from Local Guide partners [1].

As a Local Guide, you can have a significant impact on the information available on Google Maps, helping others find the right places and make informed decisions. By sharing your knowledge and experience, you can help others explore your community, discover new places, and even contribute to your city’s growth [2].

Some of the ways that Local Guides can contribute include:

  • Scoring places with ratings
  • Writing reviews to describe your experience
  • Sharing photos and videos
  • Providing insights with answers
  • Responding to questions about a place
  • Updating information about a location [3].

In conclusion, being a Local Guide on Google Maps is a great opportunity to contribute to a global community and make a difference in your local area. By providing accurate and up-to-date information, you can help others explore new places and make informed decisions. Additionally, you can earn rewards and recognition for your contributions.

Hello dear friend @PaulPavlinovich

I tried your prompt in ChatGPT from Bangalore… The results are not exact though the content remains the same… Now more details are added.

I tried a relatively difficult word in Malayalam - the answer received is short, but amazing - surely a great App for the future.

Infact I was not aware of this App… Looks very promising.

Thanks for sharing this information.

Hello dear friend @MortenCopenhagen ,

Thanks for your efforts…

I tried your exact prompt from Bangalore (27th Jan 2023).

The result is much different.

It is much shorter, but content is very correct.

Just for your kind information…

Hi friend, @Gezendunyali

“… unfortunately, many people do not have the effort to improve themselves…”

Yes, you are partially right…

See…

Even in my case…

I used to spare 8 to 10 hours per day during the Covid period… But nowadays, I’m only able to spare 6 to 8 hours only…

However, the information shared by our @PaulPavlinovich regarding the App ChatGPT is very valuable.

Thanks

@PaulPavlinovich Chatgpt has an enterprise level according to the free open Chatgpt bot tool that has more information and more updated content through this year where the latter is only updated to 2020. Just thought I’d share this fact. The enterprise may offer a different response to the same question as well. I signed up for it but have not gotten a response yet.

Saludos Farid.

Yes @MortenCopenhagen you don’t need any data harvesting 3rd party extensions to access chatGPT I recommend if you want to play you sign up directly.

I did ask it a more direct question about Local Guides and got a fairly close answer to the one you put in your post.

It will be very interesting to see where this technology leads @TravellerG it has the potential to be a true disruptor which is of course worrying and exciting at the same time.

Ask it some complex questions @FaridTDF you may be impressed (or not).

I have been working with a particular kind of API lightly and I asked it about that and a problem I was having and I got enough of an answer that I found the rest myself.

I asked it the following question - it got the answer mostly right. It is fairly non specific but so was my question but it is still fairly impressive.

tell me how to fire a steam engine using coal up a steep hill with a heavy train

To fire a steam engine using coal up a steep hill with a heavy train, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that the engine’s firebox is filled with an adequate amount of coal to produce the necessary steam for climbing the hill.

  2. Open the dampers to allow a proper flow of air to the firebox, which will aid combustion and maintain the fire.

  3. Gradually build up pressure in the boiler by stoking the fire and adjusting the firebox damper as needed.

  4. Once the desired steam pressure has been reached, engage the engine’s throttle to begin moving the train up the hill.

  5. Continuously stoke the fire and adjust the throttle as needed to maintain the necessary steam pressure and traction for climbing the hill.

  6. Monitor the water levels in the boiler to ensure they don’t fall too low, which could cause damage to the engine.

  7. Use the engine’s brakes, sanding equipment, and reversing gear as needed to control the train’s speed and direction.

Note: This process requires careful attention and a thorough understanding of steam engine operation and safety protocols. Improper use of a steam engine can result in serious injury or damage.

I am using the add-on only to include what was posted online since 2021.

All the best

Morten

Firstly sorry for being late to respond, my friend @PaulPavlinovich .

“it has the potential to be a true disruptor which is of course worrying and exciting at the same time”

You are absolutely right…

I also feel that these trends will make our BRAIN MORE REDUNDANT… right?

Recently, I found out that the “Multiplication Tables” which were very fluent to me, may be till two decades back, many have rested and wrong calculations are coming from my mind… I feel guilty…

Thanks for your valuable companionship… Ji.

PS:

I was travelling for the past few days, connected with a Google Meet up in Google’s Mumbai office.

Hi all,

While discussing ChatGPT I will mention another AI tool I started using while writing posts on Connect. It is a paraphrasing tool found here: https://quillbot.com/

As a non-native English speaker quillbot can rewrite my sentences in English to make them flow and sound much better.

I can really recommend it. Give it a try.

Cheers

Morten

PS I did not use it on this text :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Interesting approach @MortenCopenhagen

@TravellerG its really hard to say what it will mean in the long run, I’m sure the makers of steam engines didn’t feel much threat from planes and cars initially. The post office probably didn’t think much of email. None of us thought much of Covid. Nations had plans but they all turned out to be useless in the face of a real event.

So what will the future bring and what will it mean for us? Your guess is as good as mine.
