In line with the worldwide hospital edit walk V3.0. I went out to map out FMC Umuahia. FMC Umuahia stands for Federal Medical Center, Umuahia. It is one of the Federal medical centers across the Nigerian federation. Hence, it is owned and managed by the federal government of Nigeria. At inception, it was known as Queen Elizabeth hospital, afterwards it came to be known as Ramat teaching hospital. Presently, it has been upgraded to a Federal medical center ( FMC).
A major feature of FMC umuahia is its accessible design, right from the main gate, the connecting roads, down to the pathways on the sides of the roads and wheelchair ramps connecting the roads to the wards. This means that anyone on wheelchair
can access and tour the different sections or departments of the hospital easily. Hence, the mobility of wheelchairs, scooters, cars and other vehicles is not a challenge here.
One other feature is the beautiful landscape that greets the visitors. Surrounding every building or block in this hospital are flowers of assorted types, and green trees lined up by the side of the roads and pathways. Moreover, there is a wide spaced car park in the hospital and it is also wheel chair accessible.
The FMC Umuahia boasts of so many branches of medicine and popular among them is the pediatric medicine, a branch of medicine that deals on child healthcare services. I specifically watched out for this special branch of medicine because of the experience I had which made me go mapping pediatric hospitals in Lagos. Click here to see the list of best pediatric hospitals in lagos on google maps.
FMC Umuahia is a haven for paediatric medicine as it has many qualified pediatricians who are specialists and consultants in this special field of medicine. I also visited the EMCU (Emergency medical care unit), where accident victims are kept and taking care of. I also visited the laboratory medicine clinic, medical library, administrative block, dental clinics, consulting block, school of nursing etc.
The worldwide hospital edit walk V3.0 is a global activities where local guides around the world go out to map and edit hospitals around them. According to the guidelines it can be carried out by hosting meet-ups or through individual efforts. Hence, I am glad I have contributed towards the worldwide hospital edit walk V3.0.
How have you contributed to the worldwide hospital edit? Have contributed individually or hosted a meet-up? Let’s share in your in your experience.
