Madurai is known as Temple City, because of the Meenakshi Amman Temple. The second important place to visit in Madurai is the Gandhi Museum. Both of two eyes, Meenakshi Amman Temple is religio-cultural place whereas the Gandhi Museum is Indian Heritage, the simple of freedom fight.
I had the privilege to host the meetup here on 27/09/2018 on the day of World Tourism. Both of these places are the tourist attraction.
We started our photo walk from Meenachi Amman Kovil also known as Meenakshi-Sundareshwara Temple. There are 14 gates are there for this temple. The Kopuram or the tower of this temple is between 45-50 feet tall and sculptures are wonderfully made. Due to high security and photography is not allowed inside.
Also, the New Mandapam and Nandi are examples of Ancient Arts and architectural skills. The maintenance of the temple is very good, renovation is going on time to time. Battery cars, security, cleanliness, public restrooms, food counters, hotels, lodges, shops centers are available here. This temple is located in the heart of the city, and it is the heart of the city, that is why it is called “Temple City”.
From there we have moved to Gandhi Museum by auto, they charged us 80 rupees.
Gandhi Museum: It is one of the five Gandhi memorial museums in India. It is maintained by a trust called Mahatma Gandhi memorial trust. It was a Palace of Rani Mangama, converted as a museum, maintained very well. Inaugurated by Nehru. It seems Gandhi visits to Madurai is very significant. # Gandhi went up to the gate of Meenatchi Temple but refused to visit inside because his low caste followers were stopped at the temple entrance. # There only he gave up his upper Garment This Museum has a lot of valuable memories of Gandhi like: # blood stained Garment of Gandhi when he was killed is kept here # copy of letter written by Hitler and other leaders to Gandhi # Gandhian college of thought offering courses located inside the campus # Library and many primary resources kept here # visual Biography of Gandhi # Gandhi Asthi/ashes are available here.
We ended our meetup with Madurai Famous Jigarthanda & had lunch in Udupi hotel located just opposite to Gandhi museum.
Special thanks to Mr. Thomas Valiyaveetil, who came to this meetup all the way from Trivandram, Kerala. We two were the only participants for this meetup.
Thanks, google team for all your support!
