27 September | World Tourism Day 2026
!
On this World Tourism Day, I would like to share a place that is very close to my heart, Gajni Obokash Kendra (গজনী অবকাশ কেন্দ্র) in Sherpur, Bangladesh.
Located in Jhenaigati Upazila of Sherpur District, at the foothills of the Garo Hills, Gajni is surrounded by lush forests, hills, lakes and beautiful rural landscapes. It is around 30 km from Sherpur town and is one of the well-known tourist destinations of the district.
For me, Gajni is more than just a tourist destination. Whenever I go home during holidays, I try to visit this place. The greenery, quiet roads, hills and fresh natural environment always give me a different feeling. Sometimes you do not need to travel far to find a beautiful place. You just need to look closer to home. ![]()

The area offers several attractions, including viewpoints, forest trails, lakes, bridges, recreational facilities and scenic landscapes. The elevated viewpoints provide beautiful views of the surrounding green hills and forests.
Why Gajni on World Tourism Day?
World Tourism Day is observed every year on 27 September. The 2026 theme is “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” highlighting how digital technology and AI are becoming part of the future of tourism.
I believe digital platforms such as Google Maps and Local Guides can play an important role in making lesser-known destinations more discoverable. When travellers share authentic photographs, locations and experiences, more people can learn about the natural and cultural beauty of places like Sherpur.
