Welcome to this special World Photography Day post! Yes, today is indeed World Photography Day (19th August) and as there are many photography enthusiasts in Connect, I would like to invite you to my special gallery that celebrates Kuching, #ThePurrfectCity!
And to poke a little bit of fun at photographers, I am going to simulate a typical photo gallery. In this gallery you will find photos that have been heavily edited into black & white (anything that is black & white instantly becomes artistic!), has strong vignettes (so hipster!), a hint of a lens blur for that old school analogue camera feel, framed in black and abstract nonsensical captions written in a beautiful handwritten script.
Before we begin, let me introduce you to our master photographer, Ade Song. We are so fortunate to have him lend some of his amazing works to today’s gallery! Ade is a wannabe photographer. Rebellious in nature, he shuns expensive DSLR cameras favorited by other world renowned photographers. Instead, he opts for the humble Android phone and relies heavily on Snapseed to turn photos into ART!
All works shown are not for sale. They have already been snapped up by Z-list celebrities and/or loaned to museums all over the world. They do depict scenes in Kuching, Malaysia and are representative of life in this laid back city.
Without further ado… please hold your breath, count to three and exhale as you cast your unworthy eyes on the art works more famous than Monalisa!
On behalf of Ade Song, we hope that you have had your minds collectively blown by the astounding pieces showcased in today’s gallery! Please feel free to leave comments below and let us know which of the pieces are your favourites so that we can mark the prices up even higher when do more prints!
In all seriousness, it’s a bit of fun as I was editing my photos anyway. None of these photos are ever going to be uploaded to Google Maps because they would be classed as heavily edited and not reflective of real world perception so please don’t upload similar photos to Maps! Do take the time to browse the many posts on photography, learn from each other on best practises and also do check out this even more awesome post by @TsekoV that celebrates amazing photos from Local Guides! I’m sure you will recognise the names of those mentioned as they are totally fantastic!
So how are you celebrating World Photography Day today? Are you new to photography or a seasoned professional? Share your own favourite photos and tips in the comments below or why not create your own ‘gallery’ post to showcase your talent?! And if you are doing the latter, feel free to tag me and let me know so that I can pop over and go “oooh” and “ahhh”!
Seems to be a popular theme to start a post on this day @AdrianLunsong I wonder how many more will follow?
I started mine three days ago World Photography Day - August 19, 2020.
I saw that @TsekoV started a post this morning to lump all the similar ones.
Great pictures and I love the B/W theme you’ve chosen for today. My first year at the photo academy B/W pictures were mandatory. They are a perfect way to learn to focus on composition and contrast. Almost every picture in B/W will look good as a colour version, not every colour picture will look good in B/W.
To stay on theme I will post some of mine B/W and sepia pictures.
Haha, I will thinking about the fill colors in your photos.
Just one suggestion, please make your photos don’t short, it’s really difficult to saw your photos with high black boarder. Can you please make your photos more larger?
These are some of the most amazing pics I have seen @AdrianLunsong ! Thanks for sharing these and tagging me and @PaulPavlinovich for our meet-up ! I am awestruck looking at these pictures!
@Erik_van_den_Ham Wow! Your pics are really amazing! This is a great way to actually celebrate World Photography Day! Beautiful pictures everywhere!
Hahahaha… Ade Song is an amazing photographer @AdrianLunsong . please send him my regards. Please ask him to continue doing whatever he is doing. I know very little about photography, but I thoroughly enjoyed the photos shared here. Thank you for the black and white post and thanks to Mr Song for his amazing photographs.
I love your sense of humour @AdrianLunsong . In all seriousness you’ve got a great eye for Street Photography and cats. Keep the good work and I hope the meet-up will coincide with your time zone and you can come along.
These are the new addition to the family - Maverick and Goose - we didn’t name these. We adopted them from another family, obviously a TOP GUN fan LOL!
@Nyainurjanah hmm… susah bagi saya explain dalam bahasa so I cuba dengan Inggeris (<-- my bahasa pasar Malaysia! ?). So if I understood you correctly, you’re talking about two things: why are B&W photos better than colour photos and the downside of heavily edited photos. Both B&W and colour photos are great. Sometimes certain photos are better in B&W and sometimes it’s better in colour and then, most times both are equally good.
For me, I like B&W photos because, without any colour, I start to observe other things in the photos like tones, light vs dark, lines, textures etc. My favourite B&W shots are bold photos with strong contrast and high details and also moody photos that are atmospheric/dramatic. And I find that portraits work really well in a B&W style.
For instance, here’s a horrible photo of me. This is the original and un-edited.
As for heavily edited photos. Yeah, nice on a postcard but not good for Google Maps because it’s not the same to what you will see in real life. So, I agree with you that heavily edited photos is not good. Most of my heavily edited photos are for fun only!
@PaulPavlinovich You’re too kind… but please carry on heaping praises at me… We’re closer timezone wise now! We’re a mere 2 hours apart. Whoop! Whoop!
@OliverKIWI Sooooo cute! Are they siblings? Which is Maverick and which is Goose? Do you have to gently tell Goose that he SPOILER ALERT doesn’t make it to the second half of the movie?
Hi @AdrianLunsong I always wonder what will make someone a professional. I certainly do not feel that way, Photography has always been a passion of me. For me it’s the perfect way to show the beauty that’s all around us. Sometimes beauty lives next to ugliness, as a photographer you have the power to include an exclude things in your pictures. Our world is filled with so much that sometimes it’s hard to focus and really see things. That is the beauty of being a photographer.
You can learn people to look closer, better and perhaps also slower. So many people race trough life and miss so much. Sometimes beauty can be found in the smallest and simplest things.
@Erik_van_den_Ham Wow… beautiful macro shot there! And yes, there’s so much of the world to enjoy and that’s why I like photography a lot. It actually makes me stop to look around me and observe my surroundings: even the simplest of things can be so fascinating to capture!
@Erik_van_den_Ham I love doing macro with bubbles, my favourite texture image of all time is a bubble photo I made at home using UV light and a macro lens and a little machine I built to blow bubbles that I called (no imagination) The Bubble Factory.
@AdrianLunsong two hours in time and a seven hour flight to Malaysia - one of these days when we’re allowed to travel again it would be fun to visit Malaysia.
Good morning @PaulPavlinovich (well over here it is) I really love this. If you didn’t mention the bubbles it would have left me guessing. So you’re the bubble expert with your own Bubble Factory…so cool.
There is however a downside to that all, you could get trapped in a self created bubble. That can’t be good for creativity.
While were talking small bubbles here I want you to take a look at the BIGGER picture.
