World Heart Day 2026 is being observed globally on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. In Bangladesh, the day is also observed with great importance to raise awareness about heart disease and promote a healthier lifestyle.

The theme of World Heart Day 2026 in Bangladesh is “Use Heart for Action”, encouraging people to take meaningful and practical steps to protect their heart health. On this occasion, various awareness campaigns, discussions, seminars, and other programs are being organized by both government and private organizations across Bangladesh.

Heart Disease: Statistics and Facts in Bangladesh
According to available estimates, approximately 10.26 million people in Bangladesh are currently living with or affected by different types of heart disease.

  • New cases every day: Approximately 2,720 people develop heart disease every day.

  • Annual deaths: Around 280,000 to 300,000 people die from cardiovascular diseases in Bangladesh every year, accounting for approximately 21% to 34% of total deaths.

  • Daily deaths: On average, approximately 562 to 777 people die from heart disease every day.

  • Congenital heart disease: Around 68,000 to 73,000 babies are born with congenital heart disease every year.

Effective Ways to Prevent Heart Disease

  • Eat a Balanced Diet: Include fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains or brown/red rice in your daily diet. Reduce the consumption of processed foods, excessive oil, unhealthy fats, and salt.

  • Exercise Regularly: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or brisk walking every week. Regular physical activity plays an important role in keeping the heart healthy.

  • Quit Smoking: Smoking and the use of tobacco in any form significantly increase the risk of heart disease. Quitting tobacco is one of the most important steps you can take for your heart health.

  • Maintain a Healthy Weight: Try to maintain a healthy body weight according to your height and body composition. A healthy BMI is generally considered to be around 18.5–24.9. Excess body weight can put additional strain on the heart.

  • Control Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar: Keep high blood pressure and diabetes under control. Regularly monitor your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels, especially if you have risk factors.

  • Reduce Stress: Try to manage excessive stress, anger, and anxiety. Get adequate sleep, maintain a healthy daily routine, and consider relaxation practices such as meditation.

My Personal Commitment to Heart Health

Cycling: I regularly cycle and often commute to and from my office by bicycle. On average, I cycle around 500 kilometers every month.

Beyond fitness, cycling has also become a way for me to explore Bangladesh and contribute to the community. Through several cycling meetups in different remote areas of Bangladesh, I have also contributed to Google Maps by helping improve and update local map information.

And many more post about travelling by cycle, a sustainable journey.

Walking and Running: Alongside cycling, I regularly walk and jogging to stay active. I have successfully completed several 10K runs as well as one half marathon.

These activities are not only part of my fitness routine but also my personal effort to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

My Strava Profile
My cycling, walking, and running activities are regularly tracked through my **Strava Apps.**
