29th September is World Heart Day (WHD). It is a day set aside to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases (a group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels) their prevention, and the promotion of heart-healthy habits.
Approximately 17.9 million people die every year of cardiovascular disease. They are the leading cause of heart attacks and strokes worldwide. (Source: WHO)
More than 4 out of 5 cardiovascular disease deaths are due to heart attacks and strokes, and one third of these deaths occur prematurely in people under 70 years of age. (source: WHO)
This year’sTheme "Use Heart , Know Heart ," focuses on the essential step of knowing our hearts first, because we can love and protect only what we know; and when we know more, we can take better care of our hearts.
