World challenge by @Denise_Barlock @jayasimha78

In punjabi we say unless there is “Hukum” ( "divine order.") u can’t go have darshan of holy place. Before marriage twice my trip was cancelled. See after years I got chance twice within a span of one month.

My 1st visit to Golden Temple happen in July 2017,my nephew got married at Ganganagar ,from there to Amritsar by road 282 KM , 5 hours journey.
But we enjoyed our trip by road Greenery at both side field’s all around it was very hectic by road we took 3-4 halt. From my family I had gone alone for wedding. We had planned newly wed couple to have darshan at Golden Temple then we all will catch flight to Mumbai.
It was short trip to Guru ki nagari was beautiful wanted stay for few days. But had to catch flight.

This post is continue of my trip with my kids

On 1st day
After darshan we did Parikrama
After doing Parikrama we were almost wet. It was 6oclock morning marble was very slippery . We left gurudware as we complete parikrama feeling cold we came out saw a group serving langar (free tea & snack ) we had went to sarai which was near by. Got fresh planned to take rest for 3-4 hours after having breakfast as we were very tired. It was raining heavily everyone said it never rains so heavily we laugh said from Mumbai we got rain with us.

Caption : Photo from Facebook Blue is Amrit Sarovar it’s very huge we did parikrama.

Man-made pool (sarovar) that was completed by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das in 1577 AD.
The gurdwara is built around a sarovar. By Guru Arjun devji laid the foundation of the Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib) in Amritsar . Guruji also designed the four doors in a gurdwara, the Sikh places of worship announced that the people of all castes and all creeds can come from any direction, devotees come from whichever direction they bow there head here.

Sai Mir Mian Mohammed, a Muslim Pir of Lahore, to lay its foundation stone in 1588 AD

In 1984 there was attack at Golden Temple , Blue Star Operation was done by Indian Army leading to deaths of over 1,000 soldiers and civilians, as well as causing much damage to the Gurdwara and the destruction at Akal Takht. Still bullets marks are there on one wall.
The Gurdwara complex was rebuilt again after the 1984 attack. Devotees did Kar Sewa ( Voluntary free service) & even the Amritsovar (pool) was cleaned. Every year few devotees come within 15 days they clean from top Golden plates all over so that it don’t loose it shine due to pollution .

You can check video of Kar Seva at Amritsar on YouTube.

We planned to see Jallianwala Bagh & Wagah border. At sarai a person told if u need to go to Wagah border then u must leave at 2.30pm it 35 kms takes 2 hours . 4.30 pm there show starts at border, India & Pakistan on other side Public sit watch the Parade.Which we missed it due to rain.

Caption : Jallianwalla bagh photo by my son Dilpreet. Brick wall with bullet.

Jallianwala Bagh (Garden) is a short 5-minute walk from the Golden Temple, and is the site of the 1919 Amritsar massacre. On 13 April of that year, General Dyer told British Indian Army soldiers opened fire on an unarmed gathering of men, women and children. The firing lasted about 10 minutes and 1650 rounds were fired, killing 1579 people bullet holes can be seen on the walls and adjoining buildings. The well into which many people jumped and drowned attempting to save themselves from the hail of bullets is also a protected monument inside the park.

We were tired so we planned we will go next day to Wagah border.Today we will go Jalianwala bagh around 4 o’clock it takes 1-2 hours sight seeing then do bit shopping, have dinner come back.
But all planning failed due to rain climate was too cool, We sat inside the room . Couldn’t move out nor we could go out to have tea, nor dinner. Our opposite room family they got dinner from Bharawan da dhaba they had menu card he said food is yummy we also order . I wanted to have langar, but due rain couldn’t got out. & My daughter said she was not feeling well, she had fever, I had medicine kit gave her tablet.

At night we decided morning we will go to Darbar sahib, langar ghar & Jalianwala bagh but due to rain couldn’t go out .

on 2 nd day.
My son went down from help desk got number of stall wala who makes Paratha, so that we could order paratha & of tea also.
My god when I opened parcel 5 pc paratha it so big Paratha yummy in taste with lots of butter & chola we could eat only 3 paratha, We kept two for lunch in hot case,as it was raining. We couldn’t go out. My daughter still had mild fever gave her medicine after breakfast,Around 2oclock rain stop… We planned to go out but my daughter had temperature couldn’t leave her alone so dilpreet went alone to Jallianwala Bagh & Langer ghar. He wanted to go to Wagah border but I didn’t wanted to take risk sending him alone so far,he was bit upset but I convinced him . I was not in favour he should go alone out to explore but he promise he send me picture every 10 minutes so took risk. Dilpreet left alone.

Langar Ghar ( free Kitchen) langar ghar is very huge hall were all Devotees from different caste & creed, rich & poor sit together have Langar( food) here .
Devotees also, do different Seva ( voluntary service) like serving food, washing vessel, cleaning the floor, They serve Langer by saying :- ( Chappati) Prashad ji, Dal ji ( pulses), Sabji,( vegetables) ,Dilkush ji ( salad) , Jal ji ( water). Kheerji( Sweet desert)

U need to cover your head with cloth ,Slippers are not allowed don’t waste food.
Dilpreet told a sevadar told him thousands trucks are coming every day bring grain, rice, vegetables, milk, sugar, wheat flour, onion, patotes, tamtotes are given as donation. My son told us he was surprised see such things,he wanted to click photo but couldn’t click photo they told not allowed.

Then he visited Jallianwala Bagh click video & photo came back.
It was evening my daughter was feeling better. We got ready to go out do bit shopping & have dinner.

Wait for the last post.

Very well said and true.

Out here in Maharashtra as well, we say that the Mother Goddess is calling so people start walking or traveling to Devi Temples.

My last visit to Amritsar was memorable.

Here’s my article on Connect about the Golden Temple:

Thanks for sharing @RosyKohli sister!! Punjab and food is super-hit combo, I just love it!! :grinning: :yum:

“Punjabis” and “love and affection” is also a divine combination, and I believe in it.

I will try and attend the #statechallenge meet up.

Cheers!

interesting indeed @RosyKohli ma… It’s a beautiful temple indeed and I love seeing it. We do have temples here as well but some of them that I have visited are from the past and made of rocks mostly. btw, hukum in bahasa Indonesia is translated as Law
