World Breastfeeding Week 2020, August 1-7

Hello! Local Guides!

August 1- August 7 World Breastfeeding Week 2020 (WBW). This campaign was started to aware mother about the necessity of breastfeeding and now it is celebrating globally with 120 countries besides WHO & UNICEF.
This year the theme of World Breastfeeding Week 2020 is- “Support breastfeeding for a healthier planet”
You should read this Joint message from WHO & UNICEF about World Breastfeeding Week 2020 to know more.

In this COVID-19 world and 2020 world is facing a lot of troubles and many of us are also trying to overcome the situation. At this time this week (WBW) is not celebrating spontaneously and we can also understand the situation. So this year we can spread the week to the whole year globally by taking some steps and social awareness campaigns.
Why it’s important?
According to the WHO, breastfeeding benefits the mother as much as the baby grows healthy and strong. Drinking only breast milk will save the lives of more than eight lakh children a year, most of those babies are less than six months old. Breastfeeding greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, type-2 diabetes, and heart disease of mothers.
So it’s an important attempt for our community. We should also work for breastfeeding right for our mothers because we know the facilities for new moms are not wide in maximum countries besides some developing countries. Ensuring breastfeeding freely in every public and private place will make interested new moms in breastfeeding. We can ensure and can work for the right of the baby diaper changing room and breastfeeding corners. Here I want to remember the breastfeeding week 2019 theme- Empower Parents, Enable Breastfeeding**.**
In Bangladesh, many of our moms feel worried when they go out but it is right for new moms and children. But the sad thing is that there are no breastfeeding corners in public places including schools, colleges, shopping malls, hospitals, banks, garments, railway stations, or bus stations in this country. Breastfeeding corners are visible in two or four big hospitals. But this facility is almost absent in those places where the commute of common people is more.

In this matter, we should work more besides our other social activities.

Google Maps can also make the moms right to make others informed by adding Breastfeeding related questions on Google Maps.
I have shared an idea about this matter you can participate to celebrate this week if you are new to this celebration. I have also shared another idea for adding the Breastfeeding corner category on Maps. You can celebrate this week by doing any activities to celebrate the week.
We know Google Maps is an accessible map with a lot of Accessibility features. So I hope the Maps team will consider implementing our ideas related to Breastfeeding on Connect Idea exchange board.

Friends, share your thoughts about World Breastfeeding Week 2020 and our ideas about Breastfeeding facilities.

Happy Guiding!

Thank you @ShafiulB brother for your post.
Specially the ideas that you have shared allready. In Bangladesh from couple of years ago government incisting by advertisement and with other activities are trying to ensure that at least for six months moms feed there child from breast feed. Yes it’s best for both of them. In our country it’s almost absent to the accessibility of it publicly breast feeding corner & also other accessibility features. Because of the pandemic may we are not able to go and discuss about it phisically but after pandemic situation flatten may we can go and discuss with the authority after finding out possible accessibility needed places :slightly_smiling_face: .

@ShafiulB I am so excited that you made this post!

So many people are uncomfortable with just the word, and finding safe, comfortable, and sanitary spaces to breastfeed. I’ve been documenting these spaces for a few years now, but shy of adding photos and noting the locations in my reviews, I’ve been at a loss as to how to better share this crucial information on Maps.

Thank you so much for taking a lead on such an important issue.

Thank you @ShafiulB for sharing something so called uncomfortable thing. This should never be uncomfortable, but people has kept it as some uncomfortable or secret discussion till date in society.

In Kolkata some restaurant and shopping malls have this facility and in some government and private office are also have this facility. Awareness is increasing.

I really like your idea which you have already shared.

Have a great day!
