Today is World Braille day which was globally marked for the first time in 2019.
This year, the event is looking at how persons with visual impairment have been affect by the lockdown during the pandemic. Are information getting to them with the aid of non-visual messages? How are Persons with disabilities who are indoors learning about latest details from coronavirus updates? What about blind students who are now shifting to virtual learning; would they be able to read and do assignments like their colleagues?
As Local Guides, this is a call for all of us to take note of braille features at various locations while contributing to Google Maps. You can look out for braille menus at restaurants, braille on toilet doors and coronavirus information on braille too.
Have you seen any braille feature at a Point of Interest?
Braille is one inclusive way to ensure that persons with disabilities are not left behind. For us at One Accessibility Initiative, we will continue to create awareness and add information about braille features on Google Maps. Join us to make accessibility everywhere for everyone!
Happy World Braille Day!!!
