The most interesting thing I’ve done as a Local Guide
It all begun on 29 September 2019, at a co-working space where i was selected as one among the 20 Fellow local guides from Bangalore to participate in Google’s Women’s meetup(Google maps team).
It was a survey project where we poured out our thoughts on some cool new designs and products on women safety and empowerment as to how the maps team could help build safety features for women while in regard with travelling, theft, harassment, neighbourhood etc…
As a Fellow Local Guide, working with the maps team, I have taken the pleasure of designing safety feature prototypes in the Google Maps section for Women Safety when it comes to moving safely through your city!
By taking into consideration: 1) The lighting information in a few areas/surroundings- streets which have poor lighting, streets which have no lighting and streets which have good lighting. 2) Sending alert notifications and making route plans when you enter an unused street. 3) A pop-up message notifying you with the nearest bus-stops or police stations in case you need an emergency. 4) Neighbourhood- signals you as to how safe the place you are moving to is(based on previous reviews).
I have noted down my thoughts, feelings, problems and pain points in doing this.
So here I am a Fellow Local Guide who aspires to contribute more and help the map in building prototypes for women safety and empowerment as per my experience!!!
