Without Shan Pui River a migratory birds route will stop

This is a river with a brackish water boundary and has a conservation value.

The upstream is the rainwater collection canal in Yuen Long city and the lower is Shenzhen Bay. There is also the Yuen Long Sewage Treatment Plant, which is discharged water from the secondary treatment of sewage.

Causing water source of this river, the amount of water isn’t much, so its water supply is basically supplied by the sea water when the tide rises and falls in the Shenzhen river everyday.

There are large numbers of reed grass and mangroves growing on the banks of the two sides, a large amounts of food is supplied. It makes a living space for fishes and creatures. These fishes and creatures also attract a large number of birds to perch and forge in here.

Every autumn and winter, it is a migratory birds paradise, especially in the early morning, you can enjoy the birds of egret, the mallard and many different species of birds flying, perching and foraging here.

In the near distance is a big city Shenzhen of China, which has developed and prospered with high-rise building. In the past, Shenzhen was as agricultural town, so birds would be also live there, but today Shenzhen has become urbanized, making the birds deterred.

This Shan Pui river is the rare place where birds can inhibit. Therefore, if the river is covered by the future urbanization, it is possible that the migratory birds won’t have a place to settle.

It is conceivable that this small Shan Pui river is a supply station for thousands of migratory birds flying from northeast China to the south. Without this river, this route maybe stop, will this become the ecological crisis? Will it affect the future of the human beings?
